Summary:
Occupational Health Safety and Environmental Management is an important part of any company. This area is guided by Mainland Machinery’s OHSE Manager and supported by an OHSE Co-Ordinator. The OHSE Department is responsible for the health, safety, and environmental program and processes that take place at Mainland Machinery. This department acts as a support to all other departments to help share in the continued improvement of our workplace and society in general as possible.
Scope of Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:
· Participate in injury reduction processes such as inspections and investigations where needed.
· Asist in implementation of company policies and procedures through informal training and record keeping.
· Support maintenance for the Safety Management System and other management systems as needed through documentation completion and updating.
· Facilitate annual certification of equipment and building systems as outline by the OHSE Manager.
· Update 3rd party compliance website as directed.
· Lead annual review of the safety program as a whole broken down into monthly reviews.
· Create new documentation in Mainland’s compliance management processes as needed.
· Develop Tool-Box talks with supervisors and foremen then deliver them monthly.
· Deliver New Worker Orientation or training as needed.
· Initiate Health and Safety Processes as required such as hazard assessments, workplace inspections, incident investigations, and safety observations.
· Support the Recover at Work program as needed.
· Lead Mainland Machinery’s Joint Health and Safety Committee as the Management Co-Chair.
· Participate in periodic reviews of the safety system or its components as directed.
· Communicate concerns or needs for support daily with the OHSE Manager.
· Support Mainland’s compliance with provincial health and safety Acts and Regulations.
· Act responsibly while conducting work for Mainland Machinery on all job sites modeling good OHSE Processes and Procedures.
· Forward daily reports to the OHSE Manager to support the tracking of health and safety metrics and updating of the OHSE Management System.
· Update safety communication boards as needed.
· Support all levels of employees in health and safety topics, including mentoring in completing company specific health and safety processes.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Qualifications
· Construction Safety Officer Certification is the minimum education to be considered.
· Certificate or Diploma in Health and Safety preferred.
· 1-2 years’ experience in Health and Safety Field preferred.
· 2-3 years’ experience as a metal shop worker an asset.
· Ability to make improvements and drive change, not only identifying issues.
· Ability to engage others and build consensus.
· Must have strong organizational and record keeping skills.
· Working knowledge of worker compensation, and BC Safety Regulations.
· Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
· Must possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Software.
· Clean Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

Pay: $25.00-$35.00 per hour
