This role will support the multimedia asset production requirements for McMaster Continuing Education. The multimedia specialist will create in a variety of communication media and platforms to support marketing and instructional design.
Responsible for designing digital multimedia assets in support of the marketing, teaching, and learning needs of the department.
Purpose and Key Functions:
Work collaboratively with marketing and instructional design team on marketing promotion and online course delivery.
Develop multimedia content to support marketing and online course delivery.
Select and secure appropriate illustrative, photographic and sound materials.
Design and build graphical templates and content for online courses and marketing.
Verify and update multimedia to ensure accessibility standards for online delivery are met.
Edit and proofread a variety of documents and materials for final review.
Provide advice and services related to the design, creation, and online delivery of digital media.
Provide creative input to marketing and online course developers to develop more innovative course materials.
Assist with the layout of materials and content, colour schemes, icons, and other visuals used in the course master shells for Avenue to Learn courses.
Source and edit digital photos.
Produce and edit video by sequencing images and sounds to optimize recordings.
Support and maintain the Department website including, but not limited to, ensuring continuity of information and modifying and updating content.
Create graphics for print and digital promotional materials.
Provide first level technical support and liaise with external vendors for resolution of technical issues.
Provide creative input to marketing and event coordination staff for promotional print and digital materials in accordance with established standards and branding guidelines.
Remain current with frequent changes to existing and emerging digital media services, applications, and technologies.
Deliver training related to multimedia services on topics including but not limited to, programming options and accessibility standards.
Excellent creative and design skills with the ability to carry ideas through from concept to completion
Solid understanding of multimedia landscape and digital asset creation
Expert understanding of graphics and design best practises
Effective collabororator with superior communications skills
Demonstrated knowledge of digital marketing including – social media, display advertising, website, mobile and search
Experience in web management and CMS platforms (WordPress)
Strong understanding and experience in UX and UI best practices
Expert knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign
Proficient in HTML coding, CSS
Experience editing, formatting and transcribing video and audio content
Experience developing animated videos
Experience in Echo350 video platform considered an asset
Expert in accessibility and AODA standards
CRM Microsoft Dynamics experience considered an asset
Advanced Microsoft Office skills
Consult on digital media and design matters during the course design process
Design email, web form, PowePoint, and Word templates that are AODA compliant
Source images to be used in a variety of multimedia assets
Develop multimedia educational materials (i.e., videos, graphics, diagrams, animations, interactive activities, and other learning objects)
Design and produce multimedia assets (logos, images, email templates, website forms, diagrams, photos, animations, audio and video clips) to be used in various marketing and communications campaigns and course development initiatives
Collaborate with the teams to evaluate and implement new multimedia tools
Ensure that AODA compliance is met across mutliple marketing and learning platforms
Enthusiastic approach with a willingness to take on new skills and projects
Flexible to perform assigned tasks independently or part of a work team
Organized, analytical, detail oriented with strong project management skills
Ability to prioritize and perform in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
Strategic thinker, self-starter, independent and proactive, who will show initiative and bring forward new creative ideas to the team
Desire to work in a team-based environment on multiple projects with minimal supervision
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work confidently and enthusiastically with high performing teams at all levels of an organization

Provides functional guidance to others on an ongoing basis
