Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant & Inventory Coordinator to join our Bosley’s by Pet Valu store on Esplanade in North Vancouver.
This is a hands-on role that combines accounting, bookkeeping, and in-store inventory management. This is not a traditional office-only or sedentary accounting position. Approximately half of the role will involve accounting and bookkeeping work using QuickBooks, while the other half will involve walking the store floor with a laptop, reviewing stock levels, placing inventory orders, monitoring product movement, and helping ensure the store is properly stocked and organized.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both at a desk and in an active retail store environment. They should be detail-oriented, organized, comfortable with numbers, and willing to learn the store’s inventory and ordering systems.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate accounting entries and financial records using QuickBooks.
- Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and payroll-related records.
- Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and capital asset entries.
- Assist with financial documentation for reporting, audits, and internal review.
- Reconcile accounts related to payables, expenses, inventory, and capital assets.
- Assist in preparing regular financial reports related to expenses, payables, accruals, and store performance.
- Support management with financial inquiries, expense classification, and financial recordkeeping.
- Handle confidential financial, payroll, vendor, and business information professionally.
Inventory Management & Store Support
- Walk the store floor regularly with a laptop to review inventory levels and product needs.
- Place inventory orders through the AGR system to maintain proper stock levels and ensure timely replenishment.
- Monitor product movement, low-stock items, overstock, seasonal inventory needs, and slow-moving products.
- Work with store management to ensure inventory is ordered accurately and on time.
- Help identify discrepancies between physical inventory, system records, and vendor invoices.
- Support stock control, inventory accuracy, and ordering discipline.
- Assist with organizing inventory-related information to improve store efficiency and product availability.
- Communicate with store staff and management regarding inventory concerns, product shortages, and ordering priorities.
Process Improvement
- Suggest and help implement improvements to bookkeeping, expense reporting, inventory ordering, reconciliation, and stock control processes.
- Work closely with management and store staff to ensure accounting and inventory records are accurate and up to date.
- Help create more efficient systems for tracking expenses, inventory issues, vendor invoices, and store-level financial information.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Business, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks is required.
- Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, bookkeeping, and payroll support is preferred.
- Experience with retail inventory management, ordering, or stock control is an asset.
- Experience in retail, franchise, grocery, pharmacy, pet retail, or other inventory-heavy operations is an asset.
- Experience with retail inventory systems is an asset. Training will be provided on the AGR ordering system.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial and inventory data accurately.
- Comfortable balancing desk-based accounting work with active store-floor inventory duties.
- Comfortable walking the store floor with a laptop, checking stock levels, reviewing product needs, and working in an active retail environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and switch between accounting, bookkeeping, inventory ordering, and store support duties.
- Ability to handle confidential financial, payroll, vendor, and business information professionally.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with store staff, management, vendors, and ownership.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating within a team environment.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys both accounting and hands-on operational work. This role would suit someone who does not want to sit at a desk all day and is comfortable balancing QuickBooks, bookkeeping, and financial recordkeeping with active inventory ordering and store-level support.
We are looking for someone who is organized, reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of both the financial and inventory-related responsibilities of the store.
