Columbia Bitulithic is a recognized name in British Columbia's road construction industry. Following the recent acquisition of the Prince George asphalt plant and related assets, Columbia Bitulithic has returned to the Northern BC market under new ownership.
While the name has a long history in the region, today's Columbia Bitulithic combines an experienced local workforce with a fresh approach to asphalt paving, highway construction, municipal infrastructure, and aggregate production.
We are building a team focused on safety, quality, accountability, and long-term relationships with our clients and communities. As we continue to grow, we are seeking motivated Asphalt Crew Labourers to support our paving and construction operations throughout Northern British Columbia.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Foreman and Superintendent, the Asphalt Crew Labourer will assist with all aspects of asphalt paving, road construction, and general site operations. The successful candidate will work closely with paving crews, equipment operators, truck drivers, and supervisory personnel to safely and efficiently complete construction projects.
This position is seasonal full-time with opportunities for overtime during peak construction periods.
Key Responsibilities
Asphalt Paving Operations
· Assist with asphalt paving, patching, grading, and roadway construction activities.
· Perform handwork around paving equipment, structures, utilities, and tie-ins.
· Shovel, rake, lute, and compact asphalt materials as directed.
· Assist with setup and cleanup of paving operations.
· Support paving crews in achieving production and quality targets.
General Labour Duties
· Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment as required.
· Perform site cleanup and maintain an organized work area.
· Assist with traffic control, signage, and work zone setup when required.
· Support other construction crews and departments as operational needs dictate.
· Complete assignedtasks efficiently and safely.
Safety & Teamwork
· Promote a strong safety culture and lead by example.
· Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
· Participate in daily safety meetings and hazard assessments.
· Report unsafe conditions, incidents, and near misses immediately.
· Work collaboratively with supervisors, operators, drivers, and fellow crew members.
Qualifications
Experience
· Previous experience in asphalt paving, road construction, heavy civil construction, or related industries is considered an asset.
· Experience working around heavy equipment and construction sites is preferred.
· Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and willingness to learn are encouraged to apply.
Technical Skills
Basic understanding of:
· Construction site safety practices
· Asphalt paving and road construction operations
· Hand tools and construction equipment
· General labour and material handling procedures
Communication & Work Ethic
· Positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team.
· Ability to follow directions and work safely in a fast-paced environment.
· Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and weekends when required.
Certifications & Requirements
· Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence preferred.
· Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions.
· Must be a member of, or willing and eligible to join, the applicable union.
· Occupational First Aid, Traffic Control, or other construction-related certifications are considered assets.
