We currently seek to enhance our team through the recruitment of an experienced high potential individual to the temporary role of Financial Analyst in the Finance Capital department.
The successful candidate will be responsible for client and decision support, cost reporting, budgeting, variance analysis and business analytics, forecasting, business planning support and general requirements. This person must be able to demonstrate ability to work within strict deadlines, work independently and produce quality output in a rapid work environment.
Maintain and ensure the integrity of the general ledger through maintenance of the chart of accounts, processing of journal entries, management of accruals, and review and correction of invalid accounts.
Provide management reports (e. g. , financial statements and supporting schedules, Statistics Canada and other external reports, ad-hoc reports) utilizing financial systems and other inputs.
Assist in assembling budgets and reforecasts, conduct detailed analysis of financial results, and assist management in the interpretation of such results.
Ensure a timely and accurate close-out of all monthly and annual financial reporting periods.
Prepare audit working papers and liaise with internal and external auditors to ensure the integrity of financial information prepared.
Assist in the development of strategies, policies, procedures, processes, and guidelines through research, analysis and input from stakeholders in the area of general accounting practice.
Ensure that proper accounting guidelines are followed across the company in accordance with company financial policy.
Assist in undertaking compliance reviews within the company’s internal control framework to ensure consistent site management control and compliance with SARBOX or other legislative requirements.
Maintain a professional awareness in relation to current accounting practice, IFRS, and general business environment and the utility industry and be able to communicate impacts and implications throughout the business.
Assist in the development and implementation of new systems, and perform periodic reviews of existing financial systems and processes to identify opportunities for improved productivity.
Perform other duties as required
Contribute to project review meetings, as necessary, to monitor progress, identify problems, and initiate corrective actions
Skills and Knowledge
Passport Data knowledge in both the back-end and front-end
Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint)
Incumbent requires the ability to collect and analyze data from various sources
Requires a good knowledge of English, both oral and written, to facilitate effective communication to others
Must be self-motivated, self-directed, take initiative and be a team player
Must be extremely professional, and demonstrate the ability to deal with sensitive information
Experience with Bruce Power’s cost structure, as well as Workday would be an asset
Understanding of accounting principles - financial statements, accrual process, month end close, etc. considered an asset
Education and Experience
This knowledge is normally considered to be acquired through the successful completion of a four-year university education in a relevant discipline, or attainment of a professional accounting designation (i.e. C.A., C.M.A., C.G.A.,) or by having the equivalent level of education.
Requires experience in an Accounting or Financial environment to achieve a level of proficiency sufficient to understand all aspects of the Management Accounting & Planning or Corporate Financial functions
Requires some practical experience in the working with various line functions to understand aspects of work programs and projects directly or indirectly associated with financial operations
A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
