This posting is for multiple casual positions
The Guard monitors and ensures the safety of adult and juvenile prisoners during their incarceration at the Strathcona County RCMP Detachment and the Sherwood Park Provincial Court Building.
Process prisoners upon their arrival, including taking photographs and fingerprints, checking personal effects, inputting personal information and characteristics into the Computerized Arrest and Booking Systems (CABS), auditing prisoner check sheets and preparing and serving prisoner meals
Ensure safety of all prisoners at all times
Maintain the holding cell facilities, equipment and supplies
Fingerprinting of prisoners
Testify in court on prisoner management when required
Skills and Abilities
Ability to quickly adapt to any situation and apply good judgment during emergency situations
Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to juggle a variety of tasks
Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills
Computer proficiency to work in a networked environment
High School diploma and three (3) years related experience
Familiarity with the RCMP’s Computerized Arrest and Booking System (CABS) or the ability to learn this software quickly is an asset
Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred
Conditions of Employment
Ability to obtain an RCMP Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance
Ability to obtain Alberta Provincial Community Peace Officer Level 2
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
