Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Installation Technician to install walk-in coolers, freezers, and commercial refrigeration systems for our clients across Alberta. In this hands-on role, you will assemble, install, and commission walk-in refrigeration units and associated equipment on-site, ensuring every installation meets manufacturer specifications, code requirements, and ICC Energy's standard of quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Install walk-in coolers, freezers, and commercial refrigeration units at customer sites, including panel assembly, door and hardware fitting, and structural setup
- Install and connect refrigeration components such as condensing units, evaporators, compressors, piping, and electrical wiring, coordinating with licensed trades as required
- Read and interpret blueprints, equipment specifications, and installation manuals to ensure accurate setup
- Perform pressure testing, leak checks, and startup/commissioning of installed refrigeration systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve installation issues on-site to keep projects on schedule
- Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications, safety regulations, and applicable building and refrigeration codes
- Load, transport, and safely handle refrigeration panels, equipment, and tools to and from job sites
- Coordinate with project coordinators, customers, and subtrades to schedule and complete installations on time
- Maintain accurate installation records, service reports, and job documentation
- Represent ICC Energy professionally on customer sites, keeping work areas clean and safe throughout each installation
- Provide customers with basic orientation on operating and maintaining newly installed equipment
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience installing walk-in refrigeration, cooling, or commercial HVAC/R equipment
- Working knowledge of refrigeration components, basic electrical systems, and installation best practices
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment specifications
- Comfortable using hand and power tools, and operating basic rigging or lifting equipment
- Valid Alberta driver's licence with a clean driving record and willingness to travel to job sites throughout the province
- Ability to lift heavy panels and equipment (up to 50 lbs regularly) and work in varied physical conditions, including confined and cold spaces
- Strong attention to detail and a firm commitment to safety on every job site
Preferred:
- Experience installing commercial walk-in cooler/freezer panel systems from major manufacturers
- Basic electrical or plumbing knowledge relevant to refrigeration installations
- Forklift, aerial lift, or other equipment operation certification
- Occupational First Aid certification
