The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day maintenance operations across CT Bakery’s manufacturing facilities in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). This position provides leadership to the Maintenance team and ensures that production equipment, building systems, utilities, and facility infrastructure operate safely, reliably, and efficiently.
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance, responding to equipment breakdowns, minimizing production downtime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring maintenance activities comply with company policies, food safety requirements, occupational health and safety legislation, and applicable Ontario requirements.
This is a multi-site position. The Maintenance Supervisor must be willing and able to travel regularly between CT Bakery facilities throughout the GTA to provide maintenance leadership, troubleshoot issues, support production teams, conduct inspections, and ensure consistent maintenance standards across all locations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintenance Operations & Leadership
- Supervise and provide daily direction to Maintenance personnel across CT Bakery facilities.
- Coordinate maintenance activities to support production schedules and minimize disruption to manufacturing operations.
- Assign work orders, prioritize maintenance requests, and monitor completion.
- Provide leadership, coaching, training, and performance feedback to Maintenance employees.
- Establish clear expectations regarding safety, workmanship, response times, housekeeping, and maintenance standards.
- Ensure effective communication between Maintenance, Production, Quality Control, Sanitation, and Management.
2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs for production equipment, machinery, utilities, and facility systems.
- Ensure scheduled maintenance is completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor recurring equipment issues and identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, inspection reports, and work orders.
- Recommend equipment upgrades, replacements, or modifications when required.
3. Equipment Breakdown & Troubleshooting
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and urgent maintenance issues.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis to identify the cause of recurring equipment failures.
- Coordinate repairs and ensure equipment is returned to service safely and efficiently.
- Work closely with Production to determine priorities during equipment failures and production interruptions.
- Monitor downtime and develop strategies to reduce recurring breakdowns and production losses.
4. Bakery & Food Manufacturing Equipment
- Oversee maintenance of bakery production equipment, including mixers, ovens, proofers, conveyors, packaging equipment, refrigeration systems, pumps, motors, compressors, and other manufacturing machinery.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in a condition suitable for food manufacturing.
- Coordinate maintenance activities around production and sanitation schedules to minimize contamination risks and production interruptions.
- Ensure appropriate controls are followed when performing maintenance in production and food-contact areas.
- Work closely with Quality Control and Sanitation to address maintenance-related food safety concerns.
5. Food Safety, GMP & Sanitation Support
- Ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and CT Bakery’s food safety requirements.
- Ensure tools, parts, lubricants, and maintenance materials are appropriately controlled in production areas.
- Ensure maintenance work does not create contamination, allergen, foreign-material, or other food safety risks.
- Coordinate with Sanitation and Quality Control when equipment requires cleaning, disassembly, repair, or inspection.
- Participate in food safety, GMP, and facility inspections and corrective actions as required.
6. Health & Safety
- Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with applicable occupational health and safety requirements and CT Bakery policies.
- Promote safe work practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, electrical safety, working at heights, confined spaces, and other applicable procedures.
- Ensure Maintenance employees use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Identify and address unsafe equipment and workplace conditions.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions when required.
- Ensure contractors and outside service providers follow CT Bakery’s safety requirements while working on site.
7. Multi-Site Maintenance Support & GTA Travel
- Regularly travel between CT Bakery manufacturing facilities throughout the GTA based on operational requirements.
- Provide on-site maintenance support, supervision, troubleshooting, inspections, and leadership at multiple locations.
- Respond to urgent maintenance issues at different facilities when required.
- Ensure consistent maintenance procedures, standards, documentation, and safety practices across all CT Bakery locations.
- Coordinate maintenance resources between sites based on production needs and equipment priorities.
- Conduct regular site inspections and identify maintenance, safety, facility, and equipment concerns.
- Maintain flexibility to adjust travel and work location based on operational requirements.
8. Contractors & External Service Providers
- Coordinate external contractors, technicians, and equipment service providers.
- Obtain quotes and assist Management with evaluating repair and maintenance requirements.
- Schedule contractors around production and sanitation activities.
- Ensure contractors follow site safety, GMP, food safety, and security requirements.
- Review completed work and confirm that repairs and services meet CT Bakery standards.
9. Spare Parts, Tools & Maintenance Inventory
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of critical spare parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Identify critical equipment components and establish appropriate spare-parts requirements.
- Monitor usage and coordinate purchasing with Management and/or Purchasing.
- Ensure maintenance areas and parts storage are organized and maintained appropriately.
10. Projects & Continuous Improvement
- Support equipment installation, relocation, commissioning, and improvement projects.
- Participate in capital projects involving new machinery, facility upgrades, and production improvements.
- Recommend improvements that increase equipment reliability, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance costs and production downtime.
11. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Ensure maintenance inspections, preventive maintenance schedules, and work orders are properly documented.
- Track equipment downtime, recurring failures, and maintenance performance.
- Provide maintenance reports and updates to Management as required.
- Support internal, customer, regulatory, food safety, and third-party audits as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of maintenance experience, preferably in a food manufacturing, bakery, packaging, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience in a maintenance department.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with industrial production and packaging equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.
- Knowledge of GMPs, food safety, and maintenance practices within a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Experience coordinating contractors and external service providers.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple maintenance requirements across different facilities.
- Ability to work effectively with Production, Quality Control, Sanitation, and Management.
Travel & Availability Requirements
- Regular travel between CT Bakery facilities throughout the GTA is required.
- Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver's licence.
- Must be flexible to attend different facilities based on operational and maintenance requirements.
- May be required to respond to urgent equipment breakdowns or maintenance issues outside of regular scheduled hours.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime when required to support production and critical maintenance needs.

Physical & Working Environment
This position operates within an active food manufacturing environment and may require:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Working around operating production and packaging equipment.
- Working in areas with varying temperatures, noise, and environmental conditions.
- Lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and working in confined or restricted areas when required and permitted by applicable safety procedures.
- Wearing required PPE and following all site-specific safety and food safety requirements.
Pay: $60,000.00-$65,000.00 per year
