Flatiron Constructors Canada Limited has carried on business in Canada since 2004. We specialize in heavy civil construction projects across Canada encompassing major bridge, highway and other infrastructure projects.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
The Construction Manager will plan, direct and coordinate on-site construction activities of the Heavy Civil construction project to ensure that goals and objectives of the project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Additionally, the Construction Manager will carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplinary actions; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty:

Manage key field staff responsible for and project construction;
Ability to evaluate and interpret job cost reports to make decisions on schedule, crew and equipment matters;
Direct and coordinate activities of field personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget;
Monitor construction schedule, cost and quality, through the use of job cost reports to ensure project goals are met;
Review status reports prepared by project management and modifies schedules or plans as required;
Obtain and utilize the most skilled and appropriate workers for each task;
Prepare a workable schedule to achieve project goals;
Coordinate multi-phases and tasks of construction;
Coordinate the work of subcontractors and vendors and integrate their scopes with the work performed by Flatiron;
Provide support to Project Manager/Principal-on-site;
Review project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project;
Prepare project reports for management, client, or others;
Confer with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems;
Coordinate project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies;
Provide positive safety leadership to the project;
Conduct performance reviews with subordinates;
Full understanding of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) program and commitment to implementing into the work items;
Point of contact on all construction related topics with Owners Rep, Subcontractors and Suppliers;
Able to assist the Project Manager to conduct and chair meetings with Owners rep, Subs & Suppliers;
Proficient in assisting the Project Manager in negotiating terms and conditions, costs, and schedule matters with Owners rep, Sub, suppliers;
Knowledge and understanding of local union and employment rules;
Ensures workers for each task are fully qualified to perform assigned duties;
Maintains knowledge of Flatiron’s company values and strategic plan;
Support published corporate policies; and
Perform additional assignments per management’s direction.
Experience and other Requirements
A total of 15 + years’ experience as a Construction Manager, with particular focus on bridge construction, including specifically:
5+ years supervisory experience working on heavy civil bridge construction projects with a capital value in excess of $75M CAD;
5+ years’ experience as construction manager supervising construction superintendents
5+ years’ experience with Alberta Transportation Standards and Specifications
Experience with construction activities for segmental bridge construction;
Demonstrated knowledge on mixed discipline construction projects that include both structures and earthworks grading components
Proven experience working on civil construction projects in joint ventures with other construction companies
Effective communication and interpersonal skills;
Excellent technical, planning and organization skills;
Experience within multi-disciplinary projects and teams;
Experience with MS Office, Email, Word, Excel;
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community;
Ability to effectively present information to top management;
Ability to defined problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Wage: $180,000.00 to $225,000.00 CAD per annum based on a 40 hour work week, depending on qualifications and experience. Eligibility for annual salary review and incentive plan.
