Our Team is growing! We are looking for a Toolmaker!
The Toolmaker is responsible for the manual manufacturing of various components that meet customer specifications. They specialize in the construction, repair, maintenance and calibration of the tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, moulds, dies and instruments of a machine shop.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Machining & Tooling: Read and interpret CAD drawings, verify GD&T and all information on the work order, manually set up and operate mills, lathes, grinders, and hand tools, ensuring precision and quality
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Safely operate machine shop equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and troubleshoot failures to improve efficiency
- Collaboration & Communication: Work with engineers and team leads to develop tooling, address production issues, and mentor apprentices and students
- Materials & Process Knowledge: Understand material properties for manufacturing and repair, with experience in gauge building, mould making, dies, jigs and fixtures, and automation
- Workplace Standards: Follow PPE requirements, complete mandatory training, maintain a clean work environment, and seek continuous improvement opportunities
- Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and responsibilities as required
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Industry Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing gauges, moulds, dies, jigs etc.
- Educational Experience: High school diploma, trade school or apprenticeship as a toolmaker, or equivalent experience as a toolmaker
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and understanding blueprints, CAD drawings, GD&T, measurement skills, basic math, proficiency with MS Office, detailed oriented
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Familiar with various manufacturing industries, their products, terminology, and processes; strong understanding of building gauges and fixtures within the manufacturing process
- Physical attributes: Manual dexterity, ability to lift at least 10kgs (20 lbs); standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying will be required
- Communication/Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written, independently and in a team environment
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving: Skilled in identifying and resolving issues efficiently
- Time Management: able to manage multiple projects and frequent interruptions
- Attitude: Energetic, enthusiastic, self-motivated, team-oriented, and results-driven
