Position: Equipment Operator

SPARQ Industries is seeking a reliable and experienced Equipment Operator to join our growing civil utility, electrical, and infrastructure team. The successful candidate will support underground utility construction, site preparation, trenching, backfilling, grading, material handling, and general construction activities.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in safe, productive work and can operate equipment efficiently while supporting the crew as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Operate construction equipment safely and efficiently, including excavators, skid steers, loaders, compactors, telehandlers, and other site equipment as required.
Perform trenching, grading, backfilling, material placement, road/site preparation, and utility support work.
Work around underground utilities, electrical infrastructure, and construction crews with a strong focus on safety.
Complete pre-use equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair concerns.
Assist with general labour duties when equipment operation is not required.
Follow site drawings, grades, instructions, and direction from the site supervisor.
Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
Comply with company safety policies, WorkSafeBC requirements, and project-specific safety procedures.
Qualifications
Previous experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction, utility, forestry road, or industrial environments.
Experience with underground utilities, trenching, road building, grading, or electrical civil work is considered an asset.
Valid driver’s licence required; Class 1 or Class 3 considered an asset.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong awareness of equipment safety, site hazards, slopes, grades, and nearby workers.
Ability to read basic site plans, follow instructions, and communicate clearly with supervisors and crew members.
Reliable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.
Preferred Assets
Ground disturbance training.
First Aid certification.
WHMIS.
Civil Construciton, Main Line and Service Hoe Operator.
Experience working around electrical utilities, duct banks, vaults, transformers, substations, civil utility installations including gas, water, sewer and overhead power lines.
