After School Program Leader – 15 hours per week Part-Time position. This is an On-Site position. This is a non-union position that will be joining Kiwassa’s growing Childcare Team.
Overview: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House grows a welcoming and inclusive community in the vibrant Hastings-Sunrise and Grandview-Woodland neighbourhoods of East Vancouver, Located on the traditional, unceded and occupied territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Səlílw̓ətaʔ/Selilwitulh (TsleilWaututh), and xʷməθkwəyə̓ m (Musqueam) Nations.
Job Summary:
We are seeking one enthusiastic and experienced After School Leader for a part-time contract position at Kiwassa Neighbourhood House (2425 Oxford Street). This position is for 15 hours a week. Shifts will be between 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday OR 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
This position will have a start date of September 30, 2024 to June 30, 2024 with the possibility of extension.
The Children’s Program Leader supports Kiwassa’s vision to grow a welcoming and inclusive community through building safe and engaging spaces to learn and grow. The Leader plans and provides hands-on activities and care for participants in a multicultural, inclusive after school program and is responsible for: developmentally appropriate activity planning for a group of children ages 6 to 12, direct supervision and evaluation of children, incident reporting and communication with families and caregivers. Children’s programming at Kiwassa works directly with vulnerable children with high needs often working with learning challenges as a result of trauma and/or insecurities due to food, housing or settlement.
The key responsibilities for this role include:

Works with staff team and coordinator to develop curriculum and implement activities and experiences for individual and group needs of all children within a consistent child centred program environment

Creates and maximizes a healthy and safe place for children

Assess needs and abilities and ensures activities are developmentally appropriate and inclusive

Refers to or consults with the Children’s Program Coordinator when necessary

Prepares and serves program snacks/lunch to children as required

Ensures children’s safety

Reports critical incidents as required

Upholds safety standards as per Kiwassa requirements
Ensures all policies and procedures pertaining to facility are followed

Maintains positive and regular communication with parents, caregivers and family support worker regarding development

Maintains relationships with external resources, school and KNH staff members

Purchases supplies within budget and Kiwassa standards

Maintains program and participant records
-
Provides updates and reporting as required

Other duties as assigned

The position reports to the Out of School Care Coordinator and Youth and Childcare Manager

Education and Knowledge

One-year recent related experience

Emergency Child Care First Aid

Salary: $22.76/hour
