Position summary
Reporting to the information technology (IT) operations manager, the cybersecurity specialist is responsible for protecting the organization's computer systems and networks from cyber threats and for the education and testing of staff and contractors on how they can contribute to that protection. This role involves monitoring, detecting, investigating, analyzing, and responding to security events, as well as implementing defensive documentation, counter measures and the maintenance of security tools. The cybersecurity specialist is a critical component in CPSBC’s line of defense against cyber threats.
This position may require occasional overtime or weekend work depending on project demands or critical issue resolution timelines.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- monitor security access and perform security health checks to identify anomalies, respond to cybersecurity incidents and provide thorough post-event analyses using the required documentation tool (ticketing tool, record management tool, among others)
- conduct regular system scans to identify vulnerabilities and then recommend and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
- conduct table-top exercises to ensure different associate groups are familiar with procedures in the event of an incident and to refine the procedures
- manage the deployment, integration, and configuration of security solutions and policies.
- ensure IT activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and policies to minimize risk levels
- conduct user training sessions on information security standards, policies, and best practices
- maintain records of security monitoring and incident response activities, including detailed reports and analysis
- direct and empower the helpdesk team to use the correct cybersecurity processes and tools, when applicable
- utilize internal procedures and tools for effective issue resolution and escalate complex issues as needed
- engage in clear, concise communication with both technical and non-technical users to diagnose, resolve, and document issues, managing multiple cases simultaneously
- stay abreast of the organization's supported software and hardware, continuously enhancing knowledge and skills
Skills and qualifications
Required skills and qualifications include:
- bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience
- strong technical knowledge of network security, encryption protocols, network, and firewall administration
- exceptional punctuality with the ability to work autonomously and escalate issues proactively
- ability to analyze security systems and seek improvements on a continual basis
- analytical mind and problem-solving aptitude
- outstanding customer service skills with a focus on delivering positive outcomes
- a proactive, self-starter with effective planning and organizational skills
- must be able to work in a team environment
- maintain a positive and enthusiastic demeanor under all circumstances
- strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interface effectively with peers, management, and non-technical users
- relevant certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CISM, or CompTIA Security+ are good to have
The compensation range for this position is $83,425 to $104,281 per year.
