In anticipation of expanding our operating hours, we are looking to hire several new employees to help with our growing business.

We are seeking part-time (20-30 hours per week) Junior Prep & Line Cooks to join our small culinary team. This role will work onsite at our location at 692 St. Anne’s Road. The role requires part-time availability for Day shifts (Monday-Sunday), and some Evening shifts (Thursday-Saturday). The Day shift working hours are expected to be from early mornings to late afternoons.
Key responsibilities include preparing and assembling bagels, sandwiches, and other menu items in a fast-paced environment. This back-of-house role will fulfill the bagel or sandwich order from start to finish, including the preparation of ingredients, toasting and cooking according to established recipes, adding lifts (cream cheeses, jams, and spreads), and maintaining a clean, sanitary, and organized kitchen. Tasks will be repetitive, fast-paced, and require standing for long periods of time. The role will report to the Chef and work in a small kitchen, among a team of bakers and baristas.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare a wide variety of bagel/sandwich/menu items, following standardized recipes and production guidelines to ensure all orders meet artisan quality standards, including taste, texture, temperature, and presentation.
- Operate basic kitchen equipment such as toaster, mixers and rapid ovens.
- Assemble and garnish bagels and sandwiches to ensure an attractive and appealing presentation, while also controlling portion sizes.
- Set up and stock the workstation with necessary ingredients, tools, and supplies before and during shifts.
- Follow food safety and sanitation regulations, maintaining a clean and organized work area, and properly handling and storing food.
- Clean and sanitize cooking surfaces, equipment, and utensils; and help with dishwashing and cleaning.
- Package products attractively while ensuring freshness.
- Take direction from the Chef and execute specific tasks to ensure a smooth workflow in the kitchen.
Qualifications:
- Junior experience as a prep cook, line cook, or in a related culinary role, particularly in a fast-paced setting.
- Proficient knife handling skills and the ability to operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
- Meticulous focus on recipes, portion control, and food preparation.
- Multitasking and organizational skills to manage multiple orders simultaneously during peak hours.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods, and lift up to 35 lbs.
- Reliable and punctual for early morning start times.
- A positive attitude, the ability to take direction and follow instructions, and work consistently and efficiently as part of a team.
Compensation:
Starting hourly wage is between $18.00-22.00 per hour. $21.00-22.00 per hour is based on having supervisory or leadership capability. The Forge has a no tipping policy.
