In this role, you are primarily responsible for the operations of our Data Center Network that includes both the internal data center and the external backbones, upstreams, and peering connectivity. You will also be responsible for supporting our Network Operation Center (NOC) team and our customer base. You will be the point of contact for any escalations and work with our NOC as a coach and mentor to increase knowledge and reduce escalations. You will be responsible for provisioning and maintaining the network and ensuring the focus remains on keeping our infrastructures stable to maintain a happy customer base.
You will be working with key members of our Product Team, Data Center Operations, Sales, Customer Experience, and Network Development Engineers (NDE) in order to deliver projects and ensure the provisioning and project details are handled accordingly. You must be self-driven, organized, team focused, customer focused, and have razor-sharp attention to detail in your documentation.
As a member of one our network engineering team, you will play a part in assisting with the architecting our network to ensure stability, growth, and innovation. You will be heavily involved in the maintaining, troubleshooting, and provisioning of our network infrastructure, customer solutions, and custom service requests.
Working with NDE, you will play a key role in evolving our backbone as well as traffic engineering solutions. You will make day-to-day and strategic decisions that carry a huge amount of responsibility and impact.
Train and work with NOC staff to reinforce first call resolution.
Provide advanced level technical support for networking and security products.
Work with Cisco and Juniper switches/routers, Cisco and Juniper firewalls, and Cisco/Foundry/Brocade/Citrix load balancers daily.
Oversee and/or participate in projects locally and remotely involving, but not limited to, network design, product design, continuous network expansions, and data center build outs.
Resolve network related issues on our Data Center Network.
Work with NDE to ensure all network hardware is running the recommend code.
Configure and support customer solutions.
Update and document processes and procedures.
Collaborate daily with your international team of engineering peers.

Expert knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, and Brocade hardware and software.
Strong grasp of TCP/IP, routing, switching, cabling and internet protocols such as BGP, MPLS, ISIS, OSPF, LDP, RSVP etc.
Detailed understanding of the delivery of telecom services such as Transparent LAN (TLAN), Metro LAN (MLAN) and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) an asset.
Requires a detailed understanding of bridging/switching and most layer 2 protocols including Spanning Tree, 802.1Q, 802.1P, 8021AD and Transparent VLANs an asset.
Working knowledge of MPLS and VPLS an asset.
Working knowledge and experience with layer 2 bridging/switching, TCP/IP inter-networking and routing with OSPF and BGP as well as an understanding of CIDR address allocation an asset.
In depth knowledge of Linux/Unix and ability to perform scripting is a plus.
Experience in a multi-homed Internet network.
Working knowledge of Network Management systems (HP Open View and Solarwinds).

Degree or diploma in technology in a telecommunications or networking related program, or equivalent education and experience.
Certifications with Cisco and/or Juniper or equivalent (e.g. CCNP, JNCIS-ENT or JNCIS-SP).
3-5 years of on the job engineering experience.
3+ years of experience with data center and/or service provider networks.
Experience in high availability, global backbone design and architecture is highly preferred.
