As the delivery and support of education becomes more digital, the University’s network becomes more critical to UFV achieving its strategic goals. Delivering digital content in the classroom, bridging online and in-person courses, the ongoing migration to cloud- based solutions, and learning everywhere, UFV must be supported by a highly available, fully functional network architecture.
The Office of the CIO (OCIO) comprises the IT Services (ITS) and Business Transformation Office (BTO). The unit is experiencing a period of exciting transformation and growth with the goal of improving the technology experience and service delivery to UFV’s students, faculty, and staff.
The Analyst I, IT Network is a key contributor to installation, and optimization of network related hardware, software, and will work with deployment, configuration, support and maintenance of the internal network infrastructure, both wired and wireless that support the University’s needs.
This role will require contact with students, faculty, and staff, as well as external stakeholders, and therefore the incumbent must possess exemplary communication, judgement, and customer service skills.
Please note this position may be required to work evening and weekend hours and/or work at any UFV campus based on operational needs. This position will also perform other related duties as assigned.
Duties & Responsibilities
Contribute to the installation and maintenance of UFV's network infrastructure including: network switches, controllers, wireless access points and related equipment; providing guidance and oversight to contracted vendors
Identify opportunities for improvement to the operations of the UFV wide and local area networks, ensuring risk to UFV academic and administrative work is minimized in the context of the UFV networks
Monitors network performance, availability, and security. Identifies and recommends opportunities to improve these key indicators, and automate monitoring processes
Ensures system and network documentation and diagrams are maintained
Establishes and maintains high quality documentation on all regularly performed maintenance and repairs
Operating and maintaining network equipment, UPS and structured patch cabling in communication closets
Telephony system upgrades and implementation, and capacity management
Ensures high quality, secure VoIP telephone connectivity and data transmission
Installing, configuring, operating, and maintaining network LAN switches
Performs troubleshooting for technical issues related to UFV networks including assisting in planning UFV local area
Installing, configuring and supporting Voice Over IP (VoIP) equipment and telephones; configuring and managing VoIP gateways locally and remotely
Investigating and troubleshooting VoIP related problems; and managing the enterprise telephone systems including service
A recognized diploma in computer technology, or related field.
At least one of the following certifications is preferred:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Cisco CCNA Wireless and CCNA VOIP certification is an asset
CompTIA Network +
Minimum four (4) years’ experience in the computer technical support field with an emphasis in networking technology
Experience maintaining networks supporting VOIP communications
Experience configuring and supporting network switches, wireless controllers, and access points. Knowledge of communication cabling standards
Experience working closely with vendors, specifying and monitoring vendor projects, and confirming compliance with project specifications
Strong communication and presentation skills and ability to communicate technical and business analytics in user friendly terminology
Ability to develop written and graphical documentation of network infrastructures
Excellent organizational, writing and editorial skills, attention to detail, accuracy, clarity and quality
Demonstrated ability to work independently with diverse business functional and technical staff, at various levels, individually and in groups, to investigate, document and help assess institutional business processes
Experience with change management or familiarity with standard change management processes
