About the opportunity:
The National Account Manager manages all aspects of the business relationship with several nationally based customers with the objective of delivering sales and new business development for Ingredients and Export in accordance with the business plan. The position is accountable for establishing Lactalis Canada Inc. as the preferred supplier of dairy ingredients on a national basis.
The attributes we are looking for:
- Manage all aspects of the sale of dairy ingredients to national and international customers, including distributors, to deliver volume and profit objectives, which includes determining customer product needs, obtaining product approval, negotiating pricing, developing contracts, obtaining and communicating forecasted volume requirements, and conducting business reviews.
- Manage the implementation of long-term strategic customer projects such as development of new ingredients or packaging, which involves managing the communication between all internal and customer departments (R&D, Global Sourcing, Supply Chain, Finance, Regulatory Affairs, Corporate Quality and Operations).
- Ensure customer day-to-day needs are met by managing and coordinating with I&E commercial and trade team and support requirements to all other functional areas (Manufacturing, Finance, Supply Chain-customer service, planning, warehousing & logistics), including overseeing the resolution of non-routine customer service issues such as quality and delivery.
- Develop new Lactalis business with the major accounts and new accounts at both the customer’s purchasing and R & D levels by ascertaining customer’s ingredients needs and proposing solutions from the product portfolio. Liaise and work closely with technical teams on all aspects of product development for the customer, technical documentation, packaging, functionality and quality requirements of ingredients.
- Ensure Lactalis’ position as the national leader in dairy ingredients through promoting product line at trade events and direct presentation of technical product information to the domestic customer and global supply chain affiliates.
- Ensure communication and alignment with other sales team members and particularly with distributors.
- Guide and mentor Account Managers as required.
What you will bring:
- University degree or college diploma in Business or Food Science or a related discipline
- Five to ten years sales experience managing customer accounts with exposure to national/corporate head office accounts
- Expertise and knowledge of the Dairy Ingredients industry
- Experience with multi-level relationship building
- Proficient in negotiation and problem solving.
- Ability to balance customer needs with Lactalis’ business focus
- Strong analytical, planning, presentation, and problem-solving skills
- Professional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Professionalism and confidence to present to and interact with customer’s senior management and global procurement
- Proficient with standard office computer technology such as Microsoft Office and the Internet. Requirement to attain a working knowledge of SAP and BW
- Ability to perceive and interpret the customers’ requirements/demands and penetrate customer beyond immediate contact to build relationships
- Understand the Canadian milk system and global dairy market
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and demands
- Ability to work effectively within a small team environment requiring open sharing of information
