Position Overview
Mettech is seeking a Coating Engineer to lead the development of new coating systems while also managing and operating our metallurgical laboratory. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who is passionate about materials science, process optimization, and applied research.
Key Responsibilities
Coating Development
· Design, develop, and optimize advanced coatings for various applications
- Operate world-leading plasma spray equipment for coating development, product testing, and part production
· Conduct coating material selection, testing, and performance evaluation
· Lead R&D projects from concept through validation and implementation
· Improve coating processes for performance, durability, and cost efficiency
· Collaborate with production and engineering teams to scale new coatings
Metallurgical Laboratory Management
· Operate and oversee metallurgical lab equipment (microscopy, hardness testing, bond strength, corrosion and electrical tests, sample prep, etc.)
· Perform microstructural analysis, and material characterization
· Develop and maintain testing procedures and standards
· Generate technical reports for internal teams and customers
· Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and safety compliance in the lab
Technical Support
· Support troubleshooting of production and field issues
· Provide metallurgical expertise to customers and internal stakeholders
· Assist with quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Required
· Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field
· 3+ years of experience in coatings, surface engineering, or metallurgy
· Hands-on experience with metallurgical lab techniques and equipment
· Strong understanding of microstructures, phase transformations, and material properties
· Exceptional communications skills to follow written/verbal instructions accurately and point out potential problems in advance
Preferred
· Graduate degree in Materials or Metallurgical Engineering
· Experience in industrial environments
· Familiarity with thermal spray technology
