The Project Engineer is where an idea becomes a finished, tested, market-ready product. This isn’t a role for someone content to stay behind a screen; it’s for a hands-on engineer who takes a project from its first concept through quoting, design, prototyping, and field testing—owning quality, timeline, and budget at every step. You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Senior Engineers and partner teams to turn specifications into reality while ensuring full compliance with all codes, standards, and regulations.
- Mechanical Engineering DNA: You hold a degree in mechanical engineering and have the hands-on instinct to know why a design works—or why it fails—in the real world.
- CAD Command: You bring exceptional 2D and 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred, AutoCAD a must) and use them to move quickly from quoting to prototyping.
- End-to-End Project Ownership: You don’t just contribute to projects—you drive them, keeping each one on time, on budget, and in full compliance with codes, standards, and requirements.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: You consolidate cost, risk, and return data into clear analysis that gets projects approved and keeps them profitable.
- Project Origination & Sourcing: Obtain project quotes, recommend contractor awards, and direct contractors toward timely, accurate project completion.
- Cost, Risk & Return Analysis: Build the cost, risk, and return analysis required for project approval, and collaborate with Senior Engineers to create more efficient methods and maintain profitability.
- Design & Prototyping: Create and modify CAD models for quoting and prototyping, bringing strong hands-on design experience to every build.
- Competitive Benchmarking: Benchmark and detail competitor products, and analyze and interpret product samples, specifications, and manuals to inform your designs.
- Research & Optimization: Conduct material and process research to optimize product function and value.
- Project Parameters: Formulate realistic parameters for each project, including design elements and implementation procedures.
- Testing & Quality: Establish the methods by which all field tests are administered and develop ways to monitor the quality of those tests, ensuring consistency and compliance across every project.
- Timeline & Budget Stewardship: Keep projects on schedule and on budget while coordinating the specialized contributions of other engineering departments toward the development of the project.
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Automotive industry knowledge and education is a strong asset.
- Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of relevant engineering experience.
- CAD Expertise: Exceptional 2D and 3D CAD skills required—working knowledge of AutoCAD and SolidWorks (SolidWorks preferred).
- Project Management: Experience creating and maintaining project plans using Microsoft Project or similar software; knowledge of working with PLM/PDM systems.
- Technical Tools: Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), plus comfort with unit conversion and language translation browser software.
- Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and virtual communication skills, including the creation of clear process documentation.
- Work Style: A self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of projects, and is comfortable working both independently and within a multidisciplinary team. Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects and manage competing priorities.
