Quality Control Inspector

Purpose of Position:

  • To ensure all products meet or exceed relevant standards;
  • To reduce non-conformances, and manufacturing errors that may lead to returned products.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Daily Quality Inspections

Conducts product and raw material inspections daily to ensure quality that meets or exceeds industry standards, for continuous quality improvement and to reduce scrap and returned products. This is accomplished by:

  • Prioritizing daily inspections (pre and post pour checks etc.) as a function of the daily production schedule or at the request of the Manufacturing Operations Manager;
  • Auditing the pre-pour and post pour checks of each product for accuracy;
  • Auditing quality sheets to ensure all sheets have been submitted;
  • Checking products in manufacturing for compliance to special requirements
  • Checking applications specified by engineering or contract documents, such as inserts, coring, scribing and repairs;
  • Visually inspecting all products to ensure products match production drawings;
  • Checking gaskets and manufactured joint tolerances when required by gauging;
  • Physical testing and checking photographic documentation;
  • Checking concrete batches and reports, steel gauges, placement and spacing of reinforcement;
  • Conducting in process inspections as requested by manufacturing;
  • Inspecting all repaired products and inspecting, classifying and reporting all returned products;
  • Monitoring and maintaining inspection, measuring and test equipment required to ensure manufacturing process meets standard;
  • Performing related quality control work and conducting investigations of problems as requested by Manufacturing Operations Manager;
  • Testing for consultants and municipalities, when required.
  • Corrective Action

Make corrections based on the inspections/checking/testing of Anchor’s products, by:

  • Testing results of a deficient product and obtaining accurate measurement details;
  • Logging timely non-conformance reports by identifying root-cause analysis and communicating root cause to the affected workers and Manufacturing Operations Manager;
  • Referring non-conforming materials to Manufacturing Operations Manager in a timely manner;
  • If required, advising the Manufacturing Operations Manager, Production Coordinator or Team Leaders to halt production and to make necessary changes, so product is manufactured correctly the first time;
  • Advising and involving the Manufacturing Operations Manager or Engineering Services Manager when agreement on corrective action is not forthcoming;
  • Offering technical assistance, when required.
  • Improvements
  • Initiates and participates collaboratively in continuous improvement task forces and teams to address manufacturing process, non-conforming materials and discontinuity problems affecting quality;
  • Analyzing inspection and testing records to report findings and recommending corrective action;
  • Assisting in reviewing mix designs and concrete batch testing results to meet testing requirements;
  • Recording
  • Records and organizes all quality tests in a data base and in Titan;
  • Analyzes results;
  • Prepares written reports (each month and when required for plant pre-qualification Program and Product Compliance Certificates);
  • Enters data daily on product, batch reports and material inspections and test data;
  • Records repair tests, inspections, returned product reports and classifications;
  • Reports weekly the number of cylinders cast, pre and post pour audits, and quality drawings not submitted;
  • Assists in material and product test performance and nonconformance reports for the Management group (monthly);
  • Proactively resenting reports and findings at meetings when required;
  • Performs “root cause analysis” and makes recommendations to solve problems so they are unlikely to occur again.

Education (Minimum):

  • Civil Engineering Technician/Technologist diploma

Experience (Minimum):

  • Site experience with reinforced concrete or construction preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Well-developed skills in inspection, measuring and testing equipment used in concrete manufacturing;
  • Understands quality control procedures and calibration;
  • Able to read blueprints and agree dimensions to finished product;
  • Working knowledge of computers to record data in a database and prepare factual and statistical reports;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows
  • Able to work without direct supervision;
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment;
  • Organizational and record-keeping skills to efficiently and accurately manage accurately a large volume of detail;
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
