Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Field Operations Superintendent (FOS) oversees many critical components of site operations. The FOS will also contribute to the success of operations in the field through overseeing tasks such as short interval control implementation, project management, planning, scheduling and ordering. The FOS will lead in Boots on the ground safety excellence by being a visual team member engaged with workers. The FOS will perform other critical tasks such as leading and developing a safe work culture, liaise with cross product line groups such as: commercial team members, and environment.
The Field Operations Superintendent is to provide operational support to the operations manager, and plant managers. The role will assist operations with the ongoing development of short interval control (Digital) systems. In addition, the role will assist each plant manager with the management of current and future site reclamation plans. The role will also assist the operations/plant manager with rolling out new safety programs. (Boots on the ground)
Perform safety inspections/audits
Coordinate and facilitate Annual Kick Off Meetings for all employees
Facilitate Pre-employment and Post incident testing
Track safety leading and lagging indicators and communicate to plant manager
Facilitate incident investigations in partnership with the OHSC
Execute corporate and Division specific policies, and safety initiatives to improve overall site safety performance
Coach on internal and external safety policies and programs
Participate and contribute to safe work policies and procedures through execution in the field
Lead toolbox talks and safety meetings
Assist in development of short interval controls across all sites
Assist with management of plant reclamation programs
Assist in problem solving site management issues – drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, processing and quality
Supervise contractor’s to ensure performance and costs are aligned
Provide on-site supervision for operators
Develop and maintain effective stakeholder relationships with the local communities to ensure Lafarge is seen as a partner
Perform consequences management where required for employees
Manage production entries and conduct benchmarking
Conduct inventory checks and order items as required
Facilitate marine shipping operations (audits, ticket creation, data entry)
Provide guidance to commercial team members on product selection and custom blends
Facilitate monitoring of drill and blast activities as well as environmental monitoring
Manage condition monitoring data, complete trend analysis
Data entry SAP (work order creation/completion)
Responsible for providing operational support for safety, short interval controls, and operations
Total production volume for GVA 5.6m
Education and Work Experience:
Diploma or Degree in civil engineering, operations management, other
Minimum 5-7 years of industry related experience
Previous experience demonstrating skills in project management, operations, or production
Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
Demonstrated strong application user skills for MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Capable of working on multidisciplinary team and independently
Demonstrated strong problem solving skills
Ability to think quickly in high stress situations
Capable of maintaining composure in fast past industry
