Richibucto Home Hardware Building Centre is a trusted, locally owned retailer serving homeowners, contractors, and businesses throughout Kent County. We are seeking a strategic and detail-oriented Purchasing & Inventory Specialist to ensure our stores have the right products at the right time by managing weekly replenishment orders, purchasing inventory from Home Hardware and external suppliers, coordinating promotional and seasonal purchases, and maintaining optimal inventory levels.
This role works closely with Store Supervisors, Home Hardware, and suppliers to support product availability, cost control, and overall store performance.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and submit weekly replenishment orders through Home Hardware.
· Purchase products from Home Hardware distribution centres and approved direct vendors.
· Negotiate pricing, terms, and purchasing opportunities with external suppliers.
· Monitor inventory levels and sales trends to maintain appropriate stock levels while minimizing stock-outs and excess inventory.
· Coordinate inventory purchases for weekly flyers, promotions, seasonal programs, and special events.
· Attend Home Hardware Markets, buying shows, and vendor events to review new products, promotional programs, and purchasing opportunities.
· Work with Store Supervisors to forecast inventory requirements and address product needs.
· Monitor supplier performance and resolve delivery issues, shortages, and product quality concerns.
· Review inventory reports and recommend actions to improve inventory turnover and reduce excess inventory.
· Maintain accurate product information, vendor pricing, and purchasing records.
· Assist with inventory counts and inventory accuracy initiatives.
· Build and maintain positive working relationships with Home Hardware representatives and external suppliers.
Qualifications & Requirements
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, inventory management, or a similar retail buying role.
· Experience purchasing from multiple suppliers and negotiating pricing, terms, and vendor agreements.
· Strong knowledge of inventory control and replenishment practices.
· Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and inventory management software.
· Knowledge of building materials, hardware, lumber, plumbing, electrical, paint, or home improvement products is considered a strong asset.
· Experience with Home Hardware systems is considered an asset.
· Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment.
