We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Personal Support Workers (PSWs) to join our team! PSWs provide care and support to clients in their homes and assist clients receiving a variety of services, including Assisted Living for high-risk seniors, In-Home Respite, Home First, and Supportive Housing. PSWs provide safe and appropriate care while following all health and safety practices, including processes related to infectious diseases, ambulating clients, and other client care needs.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Personal Support Services including dressing, personal care- toileting, shower/ bed baths;
- Homemaking services including shopping, meal preparation; light housekeeping: dishes, floors, bathroom, laundry, etc.; other related activities if client can be left alone;
- Safety checks and/or reassurance services;
- Provides encouragement, emotional support and other support as required;
- Completes necessary client and visit documentation and reports;
- Assists clients with lifts, transfers and ambulation;
- Assists clients with pre-poured medications by providing reminders or prompts;
- Completes errands for clients, errands can include grocery shopping and any other appropriate tasks identified on referral or by the client which will support their ability to live at home;
- Follows all applicable health and safety policies and practices to ensure a safe working environment for clients and staff including hazard assessment, identification and reporting, worker awareness training, etc.;
- Must attend two in-house CCD in-services per year.
Qualifications required:
- Personal Support Worker certificate (minimum of 600 hours in duration, including in class and practicum experience), or acceptable equivalent (e.g., RN or RPN, RN or RPN student) and experience in the community setting
- Current Emergency/Standard First Aid with level C CPR
- Ontario Driver’s G or G2 License and personal automobile insurance of at least $2,000,000 and appropriate business-use coverage as required by personal automobile insurance carrier
- Licensed vehicle and the ability and willingness to drive within Durham Region
- Comfortable working alone in the community (supervisor or program scheduler on call)
- Physical ability sufficient to perform client transfers and activities of daily living and able to lift approximately 50 lbs., bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run
- Current immunization record (including TB test completed within the past 12-months) is required
- Sensitivity to the needs of the vulnerable population with disabilities, including challenges in cognition
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check completed within the past 6-months
- Must work in a safe manner and promote the health and safety of all staff, volunteers, clients and the community as outlined within CCD policies
Compensation: $21.55 per hour; plus, an additional 5% in lieu of benefits, a $3 wage enhancement for client facing hours and 6% vacation pay
Work Location: Ajax and Pickering, ON
*Subject to change, CCD staff may be required to work anywhere throughout the Durham Region
Availability Requirements:
- Daytime: Saturdays and Sundays, shift availability between 8:00am and 4:00pm
- Afternoon: Saturdays and Sundays, shift availability between 3:00pm and 10:00pm
Position Status: Casual Elect-to-Work, with the opportunity to work up to 35 hours per week. Hours are not guaranteed.
