Role:
As Survey Technician, you will carry out detailed topographic survey work and prepare base plans, drawings and survey reports as required. This role is almost entirely field based and will require you to travel daily. You will be exposed to dynamic and changing assignments and a variety of survey tasks and equipment. This will be well suited to you if you work well hands-on in small teams, and outdoors. You’ll be most successful if you are able to adapt and use quick-thinking to find practical solutions to problems that present in the field.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with survey instrument set up/break down & daily field operations
- Use survey equipment to gather topographic field data as required by scope of work
- Record comprehensive Civil measurements
- Assist Engineering Supervisor & other employees in project management & inspection tasks
- Attend customer site meetings & site visits & perform field surveying as required by scope of work & NBM clients
- Drafting with AutoCAD
- Layout development drawing creation using AutoCAD &/or LandCAD
- Gain understanding of the scope & requirements of the project; study rough sketches & prepare engineering specifications
- Prepare drawings with high precision & as per scale & incorporate all details of the drawing
- Prepare final drawings by incorporating all details from the rough sketch into a computerized drawing
Experience:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree Civil Engineering (Technology), or equivalent experience; co-op experience is preferred
- 1-3 years of survey experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD &/or LandCAD
- Familiarity with Optical & GPS surveying instruments (total station, LiDAR scanner etc.)
- Working knowledge of survey theory & practice
- Strong mathematical skills with emphasis on geometry & trigonometry
- Experience performing complex measurements
- Requires a valid Ontario Driver’s License, clean driving record & use of own vehicle.
