Under the supervision of the Radiation Safety and/or Project Supervisor, the Decontamination Team Lead will lead a team of Decontamination Technicians and contribute to decontamination processes, hot maintenance, radiation protection, and nuclear safety activities.
The role involves assisting with maintenance and decontamination activities, conducting radiation surveys, providing radiological oversight, and completing other tasks as assigned by supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct a team, including conducting pre-job briefs, toolbox talks, and assigning daily tasks.
- Perform decontamination of items and tools using proper techniques and PPE, including power tools and chemicals.
- Perform equipment rigging and slinging.
- Conduct direct, indirect, and dose surveys using various radiation detection instruments.
- Perform source checks on radiation detection instruments.
- Perform water and air sample monitoring.
- Perform internal calibrations on radiation protection equipment.
- Provide radiological oversight for required jobs and tasks.
- Receive and prepare radioactive shipments.
- Record, update, create, and complete documentation.
- Perform radiation-related services and operations in the Laundry.
- Inspect and maintain equipment used in assigned departments and record maintenance activities.
- Report unsafe acts and/or conditions to direct supervisors.
- Perform work in other departments as directed after receiving appropriate training.
- Make yourself available for training outside regular working hours when requested and possible.
Skills & Qualifications
- Over 5 of experience in decontamination.
- Over 5 years of experience in radiation protection.
- Two years of college in a technician program or equivalent.
- Green Badge.
- Millwright or boilermaker training and/or experience.
- Knowledge of radiation protection principles and regulations.
- Experience using heavy mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical tools.
