Role Description
The Specialist H2S Professional is a project-based on-site role based in Mount Pearl, NL, focused on supporting safe operations in environments where hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and other hazardous gases may be present. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting up, operating, and maintaining gas detection and breathing air equipment, monitoring work areas for H2S and other atmospheric hazards, and enforcing site-specific safety protocols. The role involves conducting pre-job safety checks, participating in risk assessments, and providing guidance to workers on H2S awareness and emergency response procedures. The Specialist H2S Professional may assist with incident response, including evacuation support and coordination with medical or fire response teams, and will complete accurate documentation, reports, and equipment logs. This position works closely with clients and other HSE Integrated personnel to deliver consistent, high-quality safety coverage and to promote a strong safety culture on site.
Qualifications

Strong aptitude and ability for performing detailed technical and operational H2S readiness audit onboard an Offshore Oil & Gas MODU with focus on H2S equipment readiness, assessment of crew training and experience in H2S conditions, reviewing H2S management systems and developing H2S Readiness plans and project specific H2S Management plans.

Experienced in Canadian operations and regulatory framework specific to the Offshore Oil & Gas Industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Candidates should possess strong technical safety skills, including experience with H2S safety practices, gas detection systems, and breathing air equipment.

Candidates should possess operational skills related to hazard assessment, confined space and high-risk work oversight, and emergency response procedures.

Candidates should possess communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to provide clear safety instructions, collaborate with site supervisors, and complete accurate safety documentation.

Candidates should possess organizational and problem-solving skills to prioritize tasks, respond calmly under pressure, and adapt to changing worksite conditions.

Relevant certifications such as H2S Alive or equivalent, First Aid/CPR, and other industrial safety training are highly beneficial.

Previous experience in industrial safety, oil and gas, construction, or related fields is an asset.

Ability to work extended or irregular hours on site, meet physical demands of the role, and comply with all company and client safety standards.

Valid driver’s

5 years experience as H2S safety advisor;
- 5 years offshore experience;

2 years MODU experience; and
- 2 years cascade system maintenance and training.
