Who is Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge?
Through the organization Chief Red Bear Children’s Lodge (CRBCL), Cowessess First Nation is the first Indigenous community in Canada to assert its jurisdiction over child welfare and family services under the Bill-C92 Canada Act. CRBCL is currently developing its operations, in accordance with the Miyo Pimatisowin Act, which provides support for its children and families in a way that is rooted in traditional Indigenous values and cultural practices.
Position Summary
CRBCL is seeking an Awâsisîwiwin (Middle Years) Coordinator to work with the Family Enhancement & Preservation Team. The Awâsisîwiwin Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of culturally responsive programs and services for children ages 6–12 and their families that are connected to the Cowessess First Nation. Working within a family-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed framework, the Awâsisîwiwin Coordinator creates safe, engaging, and inclusive opportunities that support children's social, emotional, physical, cultural, and educational well-being.The Awâsisîwiwin Coordinator works collaboratively with families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, community partners, schools, and internal staff to deliver programming that strengthens cultural identity, builds resilience, promotes healthy relationships, and supports positive life outcomes for Indigenous children and their families. This role requires strong organizational skills, effective communication and a positive attitude to work within our progressive work culture that embraces the values and traditions of Cowessess First Nation.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
· Diploma or degree in Education, Social Work, or other Human Services is highly desirable. An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience may be considered.
· 3-5 years of experience working with youth.
· Strong knowledge of children’s development and behaviours.
· Experience in developing and facilitating group programming.
· Experience working with First Nations children, youth, families and communities is strongly preferred.
Skills & Abilities
· Understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, traditions, and the impacts of colonization and intergenerational trauma.
· Knowledge of trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally safe practices.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong organizational, planning, and time management abilities.
· Ability to build trusting relationships with children, families, and community partners.
· Demonstrated creativity in program development and facilitation.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to create safe, inclusive, and engaging environments for children, demonstrating a blend of practical experience in child engagement strategies and program management.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of the child(ren), families, and the organization.
· An understanding of budgeting and financial management.
· Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and data entry.
· A positive and adaptable approach to problem solving.
· Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the region, as required.
· Fluency in an Indigenous language is an asset but not required.
The incumbent must provide a successful criminal background check with vulnerable sector search as well as be willing and able to commute to the CRBCL Head Office on a regular basis, which is located on Cowessess First Nation, SK.
