Position: Pilot Plant Technician
Annual Salary: CAD $65,000 - $90,000

Electrovaya is looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Pilot Plant Technician to support the instillation and operation of battery manufacturing equipment. This role owns equipment instillation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects across battery manufacturing processes including roll-to-roll coating and cell assembly equipment.
The ideal candidate enjoys working directly with machinery, solving technical problems, and collaborating with process engineers and research scientists to support product development and process improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Installation & Commissioning
- Support installation, startup, and commissioning of new process equipment and facility infrastructure.
- Assist in coordinating utility connections and startup activities with internal teams and external contractors.
- Assist with Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and equipment qualification activities.
- Assist to develop startup checklists, maintenance procedures, and operator instructions for new equipment.
- Participate in equipment upgrades, retrofits, and continuous improvement projects.
Equipment Ownership & Maintenance
- Serve as the primary owner of R&D roll-to-roll coating and call assembly equipment.
- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process-related equipment issues.
- Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and external vendors for major repairs and upgrades.
- Maintain equipment documentation, maintenance logs, and spare parts inventory.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in a safe, organized, and operational condition.
Process Operation & Support
- Set up, operate, and monitor roll-to-roll coating equipment for R&D trials and pilot-scale production runs.
- Assist engineers and scientists in executing experimental plans and collecting process data.
- Monitor critical process parameters and identify deviations that may impact product quality.
- Make process adjustments to maintain stable operation and achieve target specifications.
- Support scale-up activities and process optimization initiatives.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate equipment-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Analyze process performance trends and recommend improvements to equipment reliability and throughput.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions for equipment maintenance.
- Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement projects.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
Qualifications and Skills
- Diploma, Associate Degree, or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience operating and troubleshooting industrial process equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair experience.
- Experience with preventive maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.
- Experience using hand and power tools.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Forklift or lift equipment experience is an asset.
- Previous experience with roll-to-roll web handling and coating methods is an asset.
Job Environment
- Located in the Sheridan Research Park, Mississauga ON.
- Occasional travel to the USA is required to visit equipment vendors. Candidates must be able to travel to the USA.
- Work is on-site in an industrial pilot plant setting with some office setting work.
- Requires working with and nearby machinery and some loud equipment. Use of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves and respirator is required as necessary.
Pay: $65,000.00-$90,000.00 per year
