Senior Superintendent
Sudbury, Ontario
SUMMARY
Reporting into the Director, Sudbury, the Senior Superintendent will be responsible for organizing teams and equipment and assigning tasks to Superintendents and workers based on ongoing projects within the GIP Interpaving team. The Senior Superintendent will also plan labour requirements in collaboration with the Project Manager and monitor needs according to the project schedule.
PRIMARY SCOPE OF ROLE
Strategic Planning & Site Operations
- Masterplan, organize, and direct the execution of all phases of construction across massive scales or multiple project sites.
- Conduct comprehensive forensic reviews of contractual documents, plans, specifications, directives, and change orders to identify potential risks or conflicts before field execution.
- Evaluate the overall scope of work to minimize and manage its impact on the physical, economic, and human environment surrounding the job site.
- Author, optimize, and enforce the master project schedule in tight collaboration with the Project Manager, ensuring critical path milestones are met or accelerated.
- Architect the strategic setup and logistical layout of the job site, including temporary access, site offices, complex storage zones, and optimal heavy equipment deployment.
Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
- Orchestrate the work of all on-site stakeholders by establishing master construction sequences, chairing high-level coordination meetings, and enforcing accountability.
- Oversee the accuracy and compilation of daily and weekly field reports, tracking overall labour attendance, milestones, problematic issues, and weather impacts for executive review.
- Manage client, engineer, and public relations directly from the field, resolving escalated disputes or technical adjustments efficiently.
- Mentor, train, and develop junior superintendents, forepersons, and field staff to build department capability and maintain company standards.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of relevant experience on construction sites.
- 5+ years in a supervisor role.
- Ability to read and understand plans and specifications.
- Professional attitude and the ability to adapt quickly to job site realities.
- Proactive and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills with various stakeholders.
- Commitment to quality and a job well done.
- Ability to plan and organize work on a day-to-day basis.
- Respect for rules, procedures, and work methods.
- Ability to handle pressure, unexpected situations, and deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Valid driver's license.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Expected Base Salary: $110,000 – 150,000 per year. The actual base salary will depend on several factors including experience, qualifications, internal equity, work location and market expectations.
