POSITION SUMMARY

This is a minimum two year, temporary position working 40 hours bi-weekly as the Accreditation Specialist. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Accreditation Specialist will have full knowledge and understanding of Accreditation Canada, and in turn utilizing the knowledge and understanding to play a key role in identifying areas of risk to residents and staff, identifying opportunities to standardize care and improve efficiencies, and work with department heads to exceed regulations and licensing requirements. By being a change champion, with strong leadership and organizational skills, this role will work directly with leadership including the board of directors to ensure documentation, service delivery, and best leading practices have been demonstrated and within compliance and working towards continuous improvement for the betterment of the organization and its residents and staff.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Research and develop a working knowledge of applicable Accreditation Canada standards which apply to Canterbury Foundation and disseminate materials to leadership as appropriate.
Research, compile, edit and report on complex issues or processes relating to Canterbury Foundation’s accreditation activities.
Coordinate and compile all accreditation processes for Canterbury Foundation including the development of progress reports, tools, evaluations, and databases.
Maintain a comprehensive database and ensure the required documentation is assembled for the QMentum audit.
Support and guide the preparation and development of documentation, incorporating stakeholder input into complex project documents.
Consult with the “Accreditation Leads” or delegates, and the accreditation team/committee, as required, to identify emerging problems with standards, critical issues requiring more expertise and opportunities to continue to develop a culture of continual quality improvement.
Consult on, and where necessary lead and implement, new policies and procedures to contribute to continual improvement of processes to meet the accreditation standards.
Provide direction, guidance and support to management and staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures as set out to meet accreditation standards.
Coordinate with the preparation of required files and documentation/reports for accreditation surveys.
Organize and lead committees to review all accreditation standards.
Work with the necessary stakeholders to develop a process to manage and update key data used for planning and communicating with internal and external stakeholders, while ensuring sustainability and longevity of the usage and collection of information.
Assess the impact of proposed plans, using systems thinking techniques, including identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies and options.
Write, prepare, and deliver various reports and presentations, as required, for Management, Committee and groups.
Serve as a resource for education and training regarding all aspects of accreditation, including but not limited to, standards, internal process improvements, document control, and external regulatory requirements.
Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s Degree in a directly related discipline including graduates from health care administration programs, preference is given to health services professionals and HCE certified. Proven knowledge of existing and emerging accreditation standards. Has a great understanding of the comprehensive accreditation cycle and survey review as determined by Accreditation Canada. Certification in project management and systems design or equivalent would be an asset.

Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in health care with three years’ experience in accreditation.
