What are the details of this position
Reporting to the Chairman of the Audit Committee and under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Internal Auditor is responsible for coordinating and directing Geotab’s internal audit function in an efficient and effective manner. The Internal Auditor will be a critical thinker with a strong desire to improve the organization’s internal control structure. The successful candidate will have exceptional presentation and report writing skills, display excellent business acumen and be proactive in identifying areas of potential risk.
Duties and Tasks/Essential Functions:
Develop and execute risk-based audit programs to meet the needs of the Board and Senior Management, considering corporate business objectives, strategies and risks facing the Company
Execute audit procedures conducted in full recognition of the risks of the auditee which encompass the internal risks, control risks and internal/external environments and regulatory risks
Provide fair and balanced insights into current, emerging, and potential issues, themes, trends and opportunities that will enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of control processes
Execute the Canadian audit plan, which includes documentation of audit results, identifying optimization opportunities for key controls, and recommendations for improvements to key processes
Work with Group Controller, finance and operational staff to communicate and provide guidance and training regarding audit documentation and testing requirements
Monitor and evaluate the impact on internal controls resulting from modifications to existing processes, mergers & acquisitions and new product or service launches
Identify internal controls to mitigate potential or existing financial or operational risks
Prepare internal audit reports for the senior management team
Support new system and project initiatives from a strategic finance and internal control perspective
With guidance from the PriceDesk (Deal Team) and the Legal Team, use data analytics tools to audit Reseller/Customer commitments made in Reseller Agreements, Customer Pricing Letters
Promotions and other legal obligations to Geotab; where necessary, communicate with Resellers to verify compliance with reseller commitments
Other duties as assigned
CPA designation required
CIA designation (or designation in progress) preferred
Minimum 3+ years experience in public accounting and/or internal audit
Experience and knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management
Must have a strong knowledge of audit methodologies and risk management practices to develop risk-based audit programs for documenting and testing internal controls
Demonstrated pragmatism highly valued
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, analytical, communication (written and verbal) skills
A self-starter with strong attention to detail and a focus on meeting deadlines
Ability to prioritize, critically analyze, solve and, where appropriate, escalate issues
Strong knowledge of technology and those IT-related controls that impact accounting and auditing record keeping systems
Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)
Able to influence and engage across the organization by building collaborative relationships with diverse groups
Experience with MS Dynamics 365, SQL statements, Google Big Query, and PowerBI highly valued
