As a Manager (Corporate Tax and Client Services), you’ll be an essential part of our team by ensuring that financial statements are accurate, tax returns are complete and your team feels well supported.

The role:
We’re growing rapidly and require a Manager that holds a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation with outstanding communication skills and a strong desire to make a difference with our customers. You'll be responsible for developing a strong, trusting relationship with each customer and need to be confident in your ability to provide sound advice on issues that matter to them.

As part of the role you'll take on new customers, offer expert advice, review financial statements and tax returns and provide on-going tax and accounting support. You may be involved in more complex tax matters such as rollovers, estate freezes, purchase and sales agreements and other engagements that arise.

You will also be responsible for facilitating quarterly or annual meetings and will be their first point of contact. You will mentor a team of Associates and Bookkeepers to ensure deadlines are met and quality of work is high as you review their files and provide direct feedback. Business development activities such as pricing, article writing or managing new leads may also be required.

Even though this sounds like a typical accounting role on the surface, I can promise you it's not. You're going to be a part of a team that is changing the way accounting services are delivered to Canadians. Getting your hands dirty when it comes pricing, mentorship and taking responsibilty for the good and the bad will fast track your career by years.

Whether you're working with a high-profile startup who's just received a large round of venture capital funding or an independent consultant looking for personal financial advice, you'll certainly be working with some pretty fascinating people who are passionate about what they do. You'll be constantly faced with new challenges and diverse engagements as you learn to tailor your approach to each customer individually all while working with some of the newest online technology.

You'll also be working with a pretty amazing team who really care about what they do and who will drop whatever they're doing to help out a customer or a colleague.

As an ideal candidate, you have the following skills/experience:

Successfully completion of the CPA, CA designation
Minimum 2 years of public accounting experience in a tax focused role ie. working with financial statements, T1/T2/T3 tax returns, account reconciliations, GST/HST returns, payroll and tax planning (we're not looking for CPA's currently in an audit role).
You enjoy working outside your comfort zone and challenging yourself to tackle new types of customers (e-commerce, crypto, VC funds) and engagements (technology consulting, higher end tax work, etc).
You've mentored other team members before and are comfortable providing feedback
You're comfortable making decisions on your own and are confident in your ability to provide sound tax planning advice directly to clients
You’re familiar with Profile tax software and Caseware working papers
You can talk to a client about their finances simply and clearly. You can frame tax advice to clients in a way that makes sense to them without using too much professional jargon
You enjoy learning and trying out new software/technologies
You can work effectively from home

You’ll be free to work within your own schedule - wherever, whenever - so long as the work gets done. Most of the team works a traditional 9-5 schedule, but if you need to take some time off for personal errands, just block it off on your calendar. With no in-office face-time and the responsibility of dealing directly with customers, we’re going to really need to trust you - which is why we’ve built-in a diligent interview and probation process.
