We invite applications for a full-time opportunity at St. Andrew’s College (SAC) and St. Anne’s School (SAS) in role of Groundskeeper. Shift hours will be 7:00 am to 3:30 pm or 6:00 am to 2:30 pm with some occasional weekends and overtime shifts.
The Groundskeeper is responsible for performing maintenance duties on school grounds throughout all seasons which includes lawn, garden, sports fields (natural and synthetic), trees and snow removal for both Schools, located within 1 km of each other.
Job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Cutting and trimming of lawn/turf areas on a weekly basis during growing season, clear cuttings, and other debris, as required.
- Pruning of shrubs and trees, as required to ensure safety and aesthetic appearance.
- Planting and maintenance of garden areas throughout the growing season, including planting annuals, maintaining perennials, weeding/cultivating, fertilizing, watering, and mulching, to ensure optimal selection and appearance of plantings.
- Assist in preparing for special events by executing traffic control and parking operations.
- Layout and dressing of sport fields for various sports.
- Ensure all roadways and walkways are cleared of ice and snow throughout the winters.
- Sport field maintenance – fertilizing, aerating, topdressing, weed control.
- Sports equipment maintenance and repair.
- Assists in lawn, garden and snow removal equipment maintenance and repair.
- Repair and maintenance of property signage.
- Maintain or repair tools, equipment, buildings, or fences.
- Duties are performed in all weather conditions.
Skills:
- Minimum completion of secondary school education.
- 3-5 years of proven horticulture experience, working knowledge in commercial lawn/garden, property maintenance, including the operation of lawn/turf, garden, small engines, and snow removal equipment roles is required.
- Formal horticultural training is an asset.
- Driver’s license required to operate motorized vehicles – with abstract.
- Operating knowledge of lawn and garden equipment (shovels, rakes, hand saws, electric trimmers, lawn mower, tractor, and snow removal equipment).
