POSITION SUMMARY:
MasTec is currently recruiting for a HSE Advisor for an immediate start to join its Industrial Division in support of building a compressor station near Fox Creek, Alberta. This is a two (2) month site based role on a rotational schedule with 15 days on, 6 days off. This is a dynamic project environment with multiple work fronts. Management is well-respected, approachable, and provides direction as required. Safety is promoted at all levels.
Successful candidate will possess a clear passion for creating safe work environments, will have a vision, drive and discipline to effectively champion our best-in-class safety performance while overseeing the divisional HSE objectives in order to exceed HSE expectations for both MasTec Canada and our Clients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee and implement MasTec’s Safety Management Systems, while evaluating and ensuring their compliance at multiple projects/sites
- Interpret and effectively implement Corporate and Client-based safety initiatives at the project site.
- Lead, or assist with, the development and creation of:
o Safety procedures & policies Project Specific (Site Specific)
o Safety Plans Site Specific Environmental Plans
o HSE related bidding documentation, contract review, and detailed content review prior to bid submissions
- Lead safety investigations; maintain appropriate record keeping ensuring confidentiality and privacy considerations are maintained.
- Coordinate D&A testing in support of project hiring; ensure client and MasTec orientations are completed; validate and track required safety certifications
- Administering MasTec Canada Driver Practical Awareness program
- Collection of safety paperwork and uploading into database
- Schedule and lead monthly safety meeting and onsite emergency response drills
- Conduct shop, yard and field inspections
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5 years safety representative experience
- Minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation. Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation or greater is an asset
- Experience working with industrial construction/maintenance in the Facility and/or Mechanical industry
- Experience working with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and SharePoint
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for promoting and living out MasTec Canada’s 6 Core Values
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and current clean drivers abstract (5 years) is required
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid Safety Tickets (H2S, First Aid, CSO)
- Demonstrate an above-average understanding of WCB processes, provincial and federal legislation, and industry best practices
- Strong analytical and investigative abilities are complemented by exceptional organization and communication skills
