Opening General Manager
Probably Nothing | Waterworks, Toronto
Probably Nothing is coming to Toronto, and we’re looking for the person who will lead our new Waterworks location from the very beginning.
We’re hiring an Opening General Manager who will work with ownership to take the store from pre-opening through launch and then become responsible for running the location day to day.
This isn’t a position where you’ll walk into an established store with an existing team and established routines. You’ll have the opportunity to build the team, establish the culture and set the standard for the location from day one.
The Role
As Opening General Manager, you’ll be involved before the doors open and will take ownership of the location once we’re operational.
You’ll be responsible for:
● Recruiting, interviewing and helping select the opening team
● Training and developing employees before and after opening
● Preparing the store operationally for launch
● Establishing opening and closing routines, systems and accountability
● Leading the team through opening and the high-volume first weeks
● Managing day-to-day store operations
● Scheduling and labour management
● Inventory, ordering, food costs and waste control
● Maintaining food, beverage and presentation standards
● Ensuring the store is exceptionally clean, organized and ready for service
● Coaching employees and addressing performance issues quickly
● Creating a strong, positive and accountable team culture
● Being present on the floor and actively leading service
● Protecting the guest experience, even when the store is extremely busy
The Person We’re Looking For
We’re looking for a leader first.
Systems can be taught. Our menu can be taught. Our standards can be taught.
The ability to lead people, create the right atmosphere and hold a team to a high standard without constantly needing ownership to intervene is much harder to teach.
You should be someone who can walk into a busy store, understand what’s happening and naturally take ownership.
You’re comfortable giving direction, but you’re equally comfortable jumping behind the counter when the team needs you.
You notice the details. You don’t accept shortcuts because it’s busy. And you understand that speed and volume should never come at the expense of hospitality or product quality.
Experience
Previous management experience in hospitality, cafés, restaurants or high-volume food & beverage is strongly preferred.
Opening experience is an asset, but we’re equally interested in strong operators who understand what it takes to build and lead a successful store.
You should be comfortable with:
● Hiring and training
● Scheduling and labour
● Inventory and food costs
● High-volume service
● Coaching and performance management
● Guest recovery
● Maintaining operational standards
● Working weekends and being present during the store’s busiest periods

Our Toronto location at Waterworks will be our second location, and we’re looking for someone who wants to do more than maintain it.
