Job purpose

The role of the Youth Engagement Worker is to oversee and assist with facilitation of programs in the Centre and engage youth who frequent the Centre. Engagement of youth will be through social media, one on one consultations, attending public events and representing Oasis at all times. Additionally, they are responsible for monitoring the store and canteen area and to oversee canteen and retail sales. During down time it is important to provide general maintenance and cleaning where needed. This position also provides security to the Centre ensuring the building is not damaged by youth, as well as locking and securing it at the end of the night. Management reports / attendance are submitted prior to leaving at the end of the shift and are mandatory.

Duties and responsibilities

General

  • Assist with the overall operation of the facility and programs being run in the Centre
  • Assist with the development and presentation of exhibitions promoting KV Oasis at schools, public events and other locations
  • Promote all events going on at the Centre
  • Communicating events, workshops and other important information with all other staff members to maintain consistency
  • Play games with youth (cards, pool, board games, etc.)
  • Oversee appropriate use of the equipment
  • Plan and carry out daily activities in the Hub
  • Responsible for keeping peace in Hub, Games room & Multi-purpose room making it a safe space for everybody
  • Enforcing rules making sure they are followed and disciplining when necessary (taking into note extenuating circumstances where your discretion will need to be used)
  • Resolving conflict between youth using social training manual / conflict procedure manual
  • Developing solutions to issues within the Centre (I.e. Policy’s, Procedures & Youth conflict)
  • Monitor and assist customers in canteen area
  • Keep canteen area clean and tidy at all times
  • Maintain an organized and clean environment in shed and storage room
  • Provide general maintenance to all the game equipment, furniture, gym equipment and cleaning during down time
  • Provide security for the Centre including locking and securing doors at the end of the evening
  • Activate security codes when closing facility for the evening
  • Prepare and submit management reports detailing activity in Centre and confirming closing procedures were followed
  • Arrive at work in appropriate dress for events: ie – business attire for business meetings
  • Follow written organization policies and communicate effectively to clients/partners/sponsors
  • All other tasks required for the smooth and efficient running of the Centre

Requirements

  • Ability to work flex time as required
  • Able to work with youth age 12-25
  • Criminal record/Vulnerable sector check
  • Requires use of personal vehicle

Hours of Work

  • 30 hours per week

Working conditions

This position requires working in special conditions. Special working conditions cover a range of circumstances from regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors and working with challenging clients. First aid and CPR certification as well as a police clearance letter is a requirement of the job.
