Position Summary
The Automotive Service Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the service department, ensuring maximum efficiency, profitability, customer satisfaction, and compliance with manufacturer and dealership policies. This role leads service advisors, technicians, warranty administrators, and support staff while maintaining high performance standards aligned with brand requirements.
Operational Performance
The Service Manager will be responsible for ensuring the service department runs smoothly, efficiently, and profitably on a daily basis. Success in this role means creating a well-organized operation where work flows consistently through the shop, technicians stay busy, and customers receive timely and accurate service.
Key operational expectations include:
Maintaining a steady and growing volume of repair orders
Ensuring technicians are consistently productive and working at a high level of efficiency
Monitoring workflow to minimize downtime, bottlenecks, and scheduling gaps
Reducing repeat repairs by promoting quality workmanship and thorough diagnostics
Driving higher-value repair orders through proper inspection processes and maintenance recommendations
Improving turnaround times without sacrificing quality
Maintaining clear communication between advisors, technicians, and parts personnel
Keeping comeback repairs and rework to a minimum
Ensuring the shop environment is clean, safe, and organized
The ideal candidate will proactively identify opportunities to improve processes, implement best practices, and create a culture focused on performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Previous automotive service management experience
Proven leadership and team-building skills
Experience with dealership management systems (PBS, Reynolds & Reynolds, etc.)
Knowledge of manufacturer warranty systems and policies
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
