Outreach Choir Teacher
The Saint James Music Academy Outreach Choir Teacher position provides choral / voice training and music education to children and youth at Tier 1 East Vancouver Public Schools through a donor-sponsored music children’s charity.
Saint James Music Academy (SJMA) seeks a passionate individual to join our team of committed staff, music teachers and volunteers who provide life-changing opportunities to children and youth in East Vancouver. SJMA’s Outreach Choir Teacher position provides choral / voice training and music education to children and youth at East Vancouver schools.
A grassroots charity since our founding in 2007, SJMA enjoys a wide range of support from friends and neighbours, arts organizations, local business, and religious institutions. We thrive on the energy and shared success of many hands coming together for the narrow but beautiful focus of this work: making high quality music education - and all of the gifts that music brings - available to kids who wouldn't otherwise have the chance to learn.

Qualifications
Proven ability to organize and direct efficient rehearsals including instruction of vocal pedagogy and singing technique, incorporating warm-ups, ear training, sight reading and exposure to diverse repertoire.
Group teaching experience with young people OF varying ages in groups and effective class management skills is required. Experience working with children with special needs is a significant asset, as are piano skills.
Compensation Rate: $57.07 per hour + 4% vacation pay ($60.00 total)
Location: Tier 1 Public Shool in East Vancouver
Hours / Days:
3.25 hours per day (between the hours of 10:50-2:30pm)
2 days per week, for 36 weeks Sept 2026 - June 2027
The work schedule follows the VSB school schedule, therefore there are no classes when the school is closed (on public holidays, VSB Pro-D Days, Winter Break and Spring Break).
