Corteva Agriscienceâ„¢, has an opportunity for a Summer Research Assistant to join our Edmonton, AB site The successful candidate will assist with canola/corn/soybean field research trials, canola product development, and site quality and maintenance at the Research Centre located near Edmonton, AB (Ardrossan).

Duties/Responsibilities that a successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with:

Seed organization and set up.
Field preparation, seeding, spraying, plot maintenance, plot evaluation, harvest, and post-harvest quality analysis.
Greenhouse work maintaining and working with canola breeding projects.
Identifying any pest, disease, or environmental problems relating to the canola/corn/soybean crop.
Ensuring field locations are weed and pest free, maintaining a site visit schedule, location report and location log of research sites.
Data collection, disease rating, organization and entry.
Breeding program tasks including seed setup, pollination, harvesting.
Equipment maintenance and repairs.
Self-directed research project within the breeding program.
Accountable for safety and a self-directed safety initiative project crop.

To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

Applicant should be enrolled or possess a Diploma / Degree or MSc in Science, Agriculture or related field
Organized with ability to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to learn and an ability to pay attention to detail.
Understanding of basic genetic principals.
Ability to work outdoors.
Ability to work unsupervised and complete tasks in a timely manner
Ability to complete tasks both individually or as part of a team.
Computer skills (MS excel)
SAFE operation of trucks, tractors, trailers and equipment

The following are preferred, but not necessary:
Previous agriculture, field crop, or plot research experience
Familiar with machinery operation (tractor, cultivator, rototiller, sprayer, etc.).
Interest in research (Previous experience in conducting experiments an asset)
