Why Is This Role Important:
We are currently seeking a Director, Communications - 12 month contract, who is a critical and creative thinker, self-driven, with an expert perspective. The successful candidate is a well-rounded leader who will own both internal and external communications for PC Financial & Services (PCF&S), a dynamic business, with both long-standing and developing priorities. The central responsibility of this role is to maintain a consistent narrative and enthusiasm for the business, its brands and products for both internal and external stakeholders.
The Director, Communications, plays a crucial role in shaping and facilitating an effective internal communications strategy that elevates our business priorities with storytelling that drives awareness, engagement, and action. Externally, the Director, Communications is responsible for safeguarding and shaping brand perception through proactive, reactive and strategic messaging.
This position requires exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills. It also requires solid experience working in internal and external communication, agency management, leading projects and teams, advising executive-level stakeholders and developing detailed communications plans and messaging. The ability to proactively build trusted relationships while operating in a complex and ever-changing environment is also important.
What You’ll Do:
Internal communication:
- Lead all internal communication efforts: Develop and execute annual internal communication strategy and ad-hoc plans to support business priorities. You will oversee the design and execution of internal communications materials to drive awareness and engagement with our business vision, strategies, performance, and brand.

Implement and maintain best practices: Manage a suite of communication tools (i.e. town halls, conferences, intranet content, internal social media, etc.) to broadcast business directives and culture priorities of the organization.

Drive culture: The company culture is built on trust, authenticity and making connections. This commitment relies heavily on communications that demonstrate these traits.

Provide expert advice and support: Bring a perspective for the executive team to ensure consistent and digestible leadership messages are in the right “voice”.
- Create an informed colleague population: Support key departments (e.g. HR, Marketing, and others) to drive clarity around organizational programs.
- Serve as a communication bridge from PCF&S to the broader Loblaw enterprise. Find and create opportunities and tools for PCF&S to engage the retail businesses and illustrate all the value PCF&S offers.
External Communication:
- Oversee PCF&S brands and act strategically to safeguard and shape our public perception.

Reactive media relations: Manage moderate volumes of inbound media inquiries and develop responses as needed.

Proactive media relations: Oversee agency relationship, with whom you will partner to identify opportunities to use social or traditional media channels to promote company programs, products, services or objectives.
- Oversee the development and execution of creative program-based public and media relations campaigns, most often with agency support.
- Heavy contribution to integrated marketing: Work with internal partners (e.g. Marketing, Product teams) to develop messaging for key business programs and launches.
- Coordinate communication: Play a central role in crisp cross-departmental messaging addressing ad hoc circumstances, from change management to issues management.
- Develop key messaging and talking points for spokespeople.
What You Bring:

10+ years of progressive experience in executive, internal, or employee communications in complex, matrixed organizations

University or Post-Secondary Education with a specialization in Communications, Marketing or Journalism

Experience in financial services industry or telecommunications industry an asset

Experience leading an effective team

Demonstrated planning, writing, editing, and material production experience (e.g., newsletters, town halls, presentations, speeches, conference materials, videos, websites) and experience with/knowledge of social media content and community management.
- Experience with Agency oversight

Capable of building and maintaining relationships with key C-suite leaders and the ability to influence

Experience managing department, project and consultant budgets

Proven strategic and project management capabilities, including leadership in creating, executing and measuring programs

Ability to manage competing priorities and produce timely, quality results

Strong attention to detail, highly organized and proactive

Excellent communications skills with the ability to deliver strong presentations

Knowledge of the retail industry is an asset
