The team at the Georgian Court Hotel takes pride in providing a high level of personalized service to our guests, as we strive for their satisfaction. We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and results driven Maintenance Manager (Chief Engineer) to join us in support of our ongoing excellence.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for carrying out and the daily coordination of property maintenance and upkeep of the Hotel, guest rooms, public spaces and plant services. The Maintenance Manager is comfortable in carrying out maintenance tasks directly, while coordinating specialized tasks with external contractors. This individual will also support the leadership and development of the Maintenance team.
Responsibilities
Property Upkeep and Equipment Management
- Oversee and coordinate all maintenance activities.
- Carry-out upkeep of all Hotel spaces.
- Ensure the proper operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, elevators, pools, and other mechanical systems.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and extend asset life.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and respond promptly to operational issues.
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate maintenance team members and contractors.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing coverage for routine and emergency maintenance needs.
Safety and Compliance
- Awareness and maintain compliance of all applicable City of Vancouver building codes/by-laws, Vancouver Coastal Health regulations and WorkSafe BC regulations.
- Conduct safety inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed.
- Manage fire life-safety systems testing and documentation.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of hazardous materials and maintenance supplies.
Budget and Inventory Management
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Obtain quotes, negotiate with vendors, and oversee contractor performance.
Guest Service Support
- Work closely with Hotel teams to resolve maintenance issues affecting guests.
- Ensure guest requests related to maintenance are handled promptly and professionally.
- Minimize disruptions to guests during repair and renovation activities.
Project Management
- Plan and oversee renovation, refurbishment, and capital improvement projects.
- Coordinate with suppliers and contractors as needed.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- 3+ years of property maintenance, facilities, building operations, hotel maintenance, or related experience.
- Hotel experience is considered a strong asset.
- Strong knowledge of general building maintenance, plumbing, painting, drywall, and minor carpentry.
- Basic understanding of HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues and determine when specialized contractors are required.
- Highly organized, dependable, and self-motivated. Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders, and work in various indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs (23 kg) as required.
- Ability to work varying schedules (including weekends and holidays) based on operational requirements and respond to emergency maintenance situations when required.
Pay: Up to $75,000.00 per year
