Reporting to the Senior Director, Taxation, the Senior Manager, Taxation Advisory will serve a critical role within the George Weston Limited tax department, which provides corporate tax services to George Weston including Weston Foods, Loblaws and Choice Properties REIT. The successful candidate will be responsible for general Canadian tax advisory services to the Loblaw group of companies and will work closely with key internal partners at Loblaw and its affiliated businesses including Shoppers Drug Mart, PC Financial and Joe Fresh, fellow tax professionals at George Weston, and external service providers in carrying out those responsibilities. The George Weston Limited tax department is a robust tax team offering future career opportunities including all other tax aspects of the George Weston group.
Conducting tax research, summarizing and communicating findings on various matters raised by the Loblaw group business units
Actively participate in the development and implementation of tax planning proposals for strategic initiatives such as acquisitions, divestitures and corporate reorganizations
Coordinate legal entity inter-company transactions with Legal, Treasury and other departments.
Monitor organizational structure to ensure identification and execution of any tax planning opportunities (i.e. utilization of tax losses)
Monitor and review of various tax balances and attributes
Keep abreast of legislative and administrative changes, inform impacted stakeholders and recommend and assist in the implementation of necessary changes
Other special projects and assignments as required that may include providing analysis to management on identified issues
CPA designated with 5-10 years of tax advisory experience in general Canadian tax matters
Completion of Level 1, 2 and 3 of the In-depth Tax Course
Completion of the In-depth Corporate Reorganizations course would be an asset
Experience with tax research databases as well as Microsoft Office Word and PowerPoint
Experience with Canadian industry corporate tax environment would be an asset
Organized, detailed oriented individual with proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to handle multiple priorities and pursue projects to completion
Excellent verbal, written (email) and interpersonal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to liaise with various levels of management
Ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues to deliver results
