The Cabot Plastics Canada Facility General Manager (FGM) is responsible for driving the manufacturing plant to operational excellence levels which will enable Cabot Specialty Compounds in the Americas region to become a black masterbatch leader.
The Cabot Plastics Canada Plant (CPC) is in Saint-Jean sur Richelieu, Quebec and was acquired by Cabot Corporation in December 2017. CPC is Cabot’s first Specialty Compounds manufacturing site in North America and was the last step necessary to transform the Specialty Compounds business into a truly global supplier by expanding into this strategically important region. In addition, the CPC Plant brings knowledge of and practical experience in using recycled polymers in black masterbatch which is a cornerstone for Cabot Specialty Compounds sustainability agenda.
The CPC FGM leads a team of department managers and is accountable for all aspects of managing manufacturing processes in that produce quality products while complying with all policies, procedures, regulations, laws, and maintaining alignment with Cabot’s Culture and Values.
As a key member of the regional business leadership team, the CPC FGM develops and implements the plant’s long-range plan, goals and objectives that support, and are aligned with, business and global manufacturing goals. In this role, FGM will share key learnings with others and will continuously seek for improvement ideas in technology and managerial methods from others.
This position requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the determination, know-how and leadership presence to drive teams through a transformational performance improvement process ensuring that results are achieved.
Ensures safe production of products that meet customers’ needs for quality and quantity.
Leads activities of plant’s cross-functional staff and ensures compliance with all company and external standards/regulations for Manufacturing, Sales, SH&E, Finance, Quality, HR, and Community Affairs.
Nurtures a culture where all employees pursue continuous improvement.
Ensures improvement of process capability / reliability, resulting in less process variability and reduction in generation of off-quality material.
Ensures safe, reliable and cost-effective manufacturing of standard recipe products.
Ensures that the appropriate management of change process is followed for recipe modification.
Effectively manages local measurement capability, resulting in desired levels of measurement error for expected testing of Cabot products.
Drive cost efficiency- departmental budgets and expenditures to meet financial cost targets and objectives established through formal planning processes.
Effectively champions Performance Based Management by coaching and developing employees, direct as well as matrix reports.
Establishes and implements local initiatives that enhance effective utilization of plant assets through prudent management of fixed and variable costs. Ensures long-term integrity and fit for purpose of all facility assets. Efficiently manages capital budget through use of the capital management system.
Leads community outreach that includes development, implementation, and participation in a facility plan consistent with our neighbor’s choice of philosophy.
Ability to orchestrate the pace and process of change to maintain operating effectiveness; ability to challenge status quo, encourage performance-improving changes even when faced with resistance.
Prior experience in leading successful plant turnaround driving transformational performance improvement.
Leadership skills to motivate and lead cross-functional staff. Ability to deal with external contacts and community as needed. May require negotiations with government agencies and other entities.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and safety procedures. Knowledge of Continuous Improvement process and techniques. Strong focus on safety and environmental concerns.
Comprehensive knowledge of industry and In-depth understanding of how plant integrates with a business’ manufacturing goals.
Ability to organize and manage diverse and multiple resources, including budgets. Analytical skills to evaluate a variety of dynamic and complex situations requiring innovative solutions.
Bachelor/University Degree, preferably in a technical discipline.
7-10 years manufacturing experience, including prior people/budget management experience.
Proficient in English ability to speak French is strongly preferred.
