Pathologist - Locum

The pathology department at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre provides anatomic and clinical laboratory services to the region. The General Pathologist position involves service provision in anatomic pathology and provision of leadership in one or more areas of laboratory practice including quality teams. This position requires strong diagnostic skills in surgical pathology, cytopathology and hematopathology as well as familiarity with and an interest in one or more of the clinical areas: hematopathology, transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry and microbiology. The successful physician must work in a team-based, client-focused environment, and partner with all team members to improve employee and patient safety by integrating safe work practices, identifying risk and implementing improvements when required. In addition, it is essential that the successful physician exhibit excellent communication skills; collaborate collegially and effectively with colleagues, lab staff and other medical professionals, and provide a strong commitment to high quality patient and physician services.

Required qualifications:
  • Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent
  • Eligible for registration and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador
  • Satisfy credentialing requirements of Central Health
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
  • A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority
Hours of work: 75 hours bi-weekly-plus on-call obligations
Salary: $1225 per day for 56 days, then 1057.78 per day or Fee-for-Service (as per the Memorandum of Agreement and Dept of Health MCP billings)
