Join the Ayás Mén̓men Early Years & Youth Services Department as a Cultural Support Worker – Facilitator, where you will help strengthen the cultural identity, wellness, and sense of belonging of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw children, youth, and families. Rooted in the teachings of snew̓íyelh and guided by Squamish Nation values, this role delivers culturally grounded activities, teachings, and programs that nurture connection, healing, and pride.
As a Cultural Support Worker–Facilitator, you will collaborate with Elders, cultural practitioners, community partners, and internal teams to bring meaningful cultural programming to early years, afterschool programs, youth groups, and seasonal camps. Your work helps ensure that Squamish cultural knowledge is shared, honoured, and passed on to future generations.
Provide input on the development of child and youth programming aligned with Squamish teachings and values.
Contribute to culturally grounded curriculum for early years, afterschool programs, youth groups, and family programs.
Plan and facilitate cultural components of seasonal cultural camps (e.g., spring break, summer, family camps).
Deliver cultural teachings to children, youth, and staff across Ayás Mén̓men programs.
Support cultural teachings at other People Services programs (e.g., Capilano Littlest Ones School, Es7lahan).
Build strong relationships with Elders in Residence and cultural leaders to learn and incorporate teachings into programs.
Participate in community cultural events, healing gatherings, workshops, and awareness sessions.
Collaborate with internal departments, community programs, and neighbouring Nations to share teachings and develop cultural programming.
Maintain strong communication with cultural practitioners and actively expand own cultural knowledge.
Track hours of direct service and submit monthly reports to the Director.
Ensure adherence to workplace health and safety standards, safe work practices, and program protocols.
Contribute positively to the Ayás Mén̓men Child & Family Services team and support department goals.
Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in First Nations Studies, Child & Youth Care, Child, Family & Community Studies, Social Work, or a related field; SFU Squamish Language Program may be considered.
4–5 years of experience supporting cultural programming, Squamish cultural protocols, youth mentorship, life skills support, and First Nations–based program development.
Demonstrated knowledge of Squamish Nation culture, language, traditions, and heritage (asset).
Experience collaborating with Elders, cultural practitioners, and community partners.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort with large database systems; JD Edwards an asset.
Experience working in a First Nations community environment (preferred).
Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
High emotional intelligence, patience, integrity, and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Ability to explain cultural knowledge in a meaningful, accessible way to children, youth, families, and staff.
Strong organizational and time‑management abilities.
Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and cultural respect.
Valid BC Class 4 or 5 Driver’s Licence (Class 7N may be considered) and access to a reliable vehicle.

Salary: $66,689 - $93,364
