Location: 5200 Orbitor Dr., Mississauga, ON L4W 5B4, Canada (Hybrid)
Status: Part-time, 3 days a week
Job scope: The In-House Paralegal/Law Clerk will work directly with our in-house legal counsel, assisting in a variety of legal and administrative tasks, and contributing to the growth and smooth operation of the legal, compliance, and risk function of the business. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the co-operative adheres to all regulatory requirements, maintains accurate records, and manages legal workload efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in monitoring compliance and undertaking filings/requirements where necessary.
- Organize and manage legal files and correspondence, ensuring that all documents are properly filed and accessible.
- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and revising legal documents, contracts, and governance documents under the supervision of in-house counsel.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of regulatory filings, licenses, and permits.
- Support build of the new function and implementation of legal processes, templates, and programs
- Contribute to building out contract management function via organizing templates and managing review requests.
- Assist in managing the company's insurance portfolio, including renewal, processing claims, and coordinating with insurance providers.
- Assist with the management of the company’s intellectual property portfolio (trademarks)
- Research, including general legal research, on legislative/regulatory matters and changes, legal technology, and matters relevant to the dairy/manufacturing industry.
- Provide general administrative support to in-house counsel as needed.
- Coordinate and attend meetings with internal and external business partners, taking notes and following up on action items as needed.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- Certificate/Diploma or Degree in a Law Clerk/Paralegal program from a recognized institution.
- Paralegals must be licensed by and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario Certification and membership considered an asset.
- Min. 3 years of experience as a paralegal/law clerk, ideally with experience in an in-house legal environment.
- Experience in corporate law, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and/or insurance considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases.
