Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Dairy Herdsman to oversee the health, care, and management of dairy cattle on our farm. This role is vital to maintaining a productive and healthy herd, ensuring high-quality milk production, and supporting the overall operations of the dairy farm. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, a passion for animal husbandry, and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in a farm environment.
Duties
- Monitor and assess the health and well-being of dairy cattle, identifying signs of illness or distress
- Assist with feeding, watering, and cleaning the herd’s living areas to maintain hygiene standards
- Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment used in daily herd management tasks
- Perform routine milking procedures efficiently and hygienically
- Assist with breeding programs and record keeping related to herd genetics and productivity
- Conduct regular inspections of fencing, water supplies, and shelter to ensure safety and functionality
- Handle heavy lifting tasks related to feed, bedding, or equipment as needed
- Collaborate with veterinary professionals for health treatments and vaccinations
Skills
- Mechanical knowledge for maintaining and troubleshooting farm machinery
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and effectively in various farm tasks
- Experience or familiarity with farm machinery operation is preferred
- Strong physical stamina to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Attention to detail in monitoring animal health and maintaining accurate records
- Good communication skills for teamwork and coordination with other farm staff
- Passion for animal care and sustainable farming practices
Pay: $18.00-$24.00 per hour
