Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Yard Worker to join our team. This position is responsible for keeping the yard organized, assisting with truck and trailer operations, helping the shop with repairs and maintenance, and ensuring all equipment is ready for dispatch. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions, has a strong work ethic, and is willing to assist wherever needed to keep daily operations running smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections of trailers to ensure they are clean, safe, and ready for dispatch.
- Check load securement equipment, including chains, straps, binders, tarps, edge protectors, and other accessories, ensuring everything is complete and in good working condition.
- Repair and maintain truck and trailer tarps as needed.
- Assist mechanics with truck and trailer repairs, maintenance, and shop duties.
- Help drivers secure loads and install tarps when required.
- Keep the yard clean, organized, and free of debris.
- Remove snow and ice from the yard, parking areas, trailers, and walkways during winter.
- Move trailers and equipment around the yard as directed.
- Operate a forklift when required (forklift experience is an asset but not required).
- Perform general labour tasks and assist with other yard and shop duties as assigned.
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous yard or general labour experience is an asset but not required.
- Forklift operating experience or certification is an asset.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to assist mechanics is an asset.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of load securement equipment is an asset.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify damaged or missing equipment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license is an asset.
