About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 86-year-old woman living in Picton, Ontario with her daughter. She uses a walker and has significantly limited mobility, making it difficult to move around for extended periods. She has a pronounced hunched posture affecting her neck and back, which impacts her ability to stand and look forward. While she can manage simple tasks like breakfast on good days, her strength varies considerably—some days even making a cup of tea is challenging. She previously had PSW support but experienced a revolving door of different caregivers, so consistency and reliability are especially important to her and her family.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare nutritious meals, particularly lunches and dinners, as standing for meal preparation is difficult for the client
- Assist with light housekeeping tasks including laundry and general tidying (a cleaning service handles deep cleaning on Tuesdays)
- Provide medication reminders and assistance with medication management
- Encourage and support light exercise or movement activities to help maintain mobility
- Assist with showering as needed (a shower stool is available for safety)
- Provide companionship and conversation during visits
- Occasionally provide transportation to medical appointments when needed (client has access to a nurse for in-home blood work)
- Support mobility assistance with walker as needed throughout the home
What We're Looking For:
- A reliable and consistent caregiver who will show up as scheduled
- Experience working with seniors who have mobility limitations
- Skills in meal preparation and ability to accommodate dietary needs
- Patient, calm demeanor with someone who has variable energy levels day-to-day
- English-speaking
- Valid driver's license for occasional transportation needs
- Someone who respects the client's independence while providing necessary support
- Understanding that some days will require more hands-on assistance while others may focus more on companionship
Schedule:
Two visits per week, two hours per shift, starting after 11:00 AM (approximately 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM). Flexible on specific days except Tuesdays. Potential for occasional weekend visits as needs arise. The client takes time to become mobile in the morning, so late morning or early afternoon timing works best for her routine.
