Position Overview:
Power Your Future with Qualus in our Transmission & Distribution Canada business. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join our well-established team of engineers and designers.
This role offers long-term workload stability, exposure to a diverse portfolio of utility and renewable energy projects, and the opportunity to grow your technical capabilities within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
You will work on projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV, supporting designs from early concept through construction and commissioning—an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to develop practical engineering skills and contribute to critical infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of electrical substations (12 kV to 500 kV), including layouts and station service systems under the guidance of senior engineers

Support the preparation and review of key design deliverables, including:One-line and phasing diagrams; Substation layouts, sections, and equipment arrangements; Grounding/grid layouts and details; Conduit and cable routing plans

Contribute to engineering calculations, studies, and analyses, including: Grounding studies;Lightning protection; Switchyard illumination; Rigid and flexible bus studies

Assist in the preparation of engineering documents such as design criteria, specifications, reports, and drawing lists

Support the development of design packages, including plans, reports, and construction specifications

Review vendor drawings and technical documents to ensure compliance with project requirements

Respond to construction-related queries (RFIs) and assist with field documentation such as site instructions and field review reports

Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and occasional site visits to support constructability and design validation

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated and integrated project delivery

Maintain accurate project documentation and contribute to quality assurance and continuous improvement processes

Ensure safety standards and best practices are incorporated into all designs

Support delivery of work within assigned budgets and schedules
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university

Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with EGBC

0–2 years of relevant experience, preferably in transmission & distribution or substation design

Exposure to substation projects (utility experience considered an asset)

Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code, IEEE, IEC, etc.)

Proficiency with engineering tools (e.g., AutoCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, WINIGS, ETAP, or similar) is an asset; willingness to learn new tools is essential
